Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Return to work

Here it is, Elevance Health officially pulling people leaders and director equivalent individuals contributors back to the office 3 days a week. No doubt this is a prelude to get people to quit before more RIFs come.

Even the Q&A provides some BS response about “I don’t even have teammates in my state” and blah blah “make meaningful connections with people in the office”. No thanks, I don’t want to do social after hours with work people.

These Boomer leaders are so disconnected from the workers and are fearful managers.

@jf false! I know for fact that isn't the case. Our buildings can't handle it. Why create drama. Everyone who reads this persons post, watch by this time next year what they are saying is not true.

They should reopen some of the offices they closed that were literally in the middle of where the majority of employees lived. I know quite of few people that are waiting for that to happen because they would like to be around people again but they don’t want to commute.

Call center doesn't pay enough for the majority of people to commute more than 15-20 minutes. At most. I will not be doing that

Why is it 50 miles? I think people that live in congestive areas like NY, LA and ATL the mileage requirement should be half that.

I’ve heard that rumor about customer service being sent back to the office and I think it’s an easy way for them to have people quit and they will. But the job market su-ks everywhere so who knows. I see customer service management in the office all the time so it’s just a matter of time for the desks to be set up.

If the rumors are true that line staff will have to go in, 4rd quarter or sooner, what happens under this scenario? As a manager you may or may not be near a pulse point, say half your staff has to go into the office, the other half are not near a point so they get excluded. Morale soars, lol. Then the half that go into the office are not meeting their metrics, so now it is assumed they are not working but "collaborating or chatting or comparing their drive struggle " then what - or if the manager is in the office, is that person "accused of favoritism " for treating them different or so some will think. What a chit storm in the making.

I live less than 50 miles from a pulse point - but due to constant construction and traffic it takes me 1+ hrs to get there , regardless of time of day ( I have tried it multiple times) I spent over 40 minutes finding a parking spot, then finding a desk, now set up my equipment, no toilet paper in the bathroom, looked like it smelled, back to my "desk aka table piece) and listen to multiple people talking on their cell phone to whoever - guess they don't have metrics. It was exhausting, disgusting, and worthless. Took even longer to get home - by then it was after 5 so I essentially lost 3 hrs of time and got nothing of worth accomplished other than obedience

I've been 100% remote for my entire tenure here (over 15 years). RTO would have to be called "Begin Going to Office".... The way I see it, return to office doesn't pertain to me. I was never there to begin with.

Exactly. It’s such bs that they talk about their “go green” initiative.

I may have less animosity towards RTO if the company wasn’t touting itself as climate focused AT THE SAME TIME. Forcing ppl back into the office more days a week goes against supporting the environment. Our ELT is awful

What about employees that are no where near a Pulse point? When I was hired as virtual there was a pulse point about 35 minutes away but it’s been closed. The next closest is about a 90-120 minute drive depending on traffic. Afraid of what this might mean.

@dt+1jt12nyp8 your “leader” is not informed OR is not being honest. There absolutely IS a plan to roll out RTO to all employees. Likely Q4

@bk+1jt12nyp8 - If you're paid hourly then great. If you're salary, then why the heII would you give anything extra to this place? I don't get it.

I specifically asked my leader and was told that is not true. The only RTO is for leaders and it won’t be rolled out beyond leaders. If that’s the case I’m fine with it as directors and above make a lot of money and can afford to come into the office.

Our CEO better be hauling her big but in the office as well.

She thinks she's too important to come in BUT we have to volunteer wearing those tee shirts as a target over our chests?

What else can you expect from for profit companies? They have to please the oil/gas bosses and auto insurance commission by getting more people to drive and come into the office.

Will it affect E14 who are not people leaders, but independent contributors?

Outsource factory workers, they build their own brands today.
Outsource insurance workers, will they build new digital companies replacing our traditional US insurance company?

Just vow to yourself to do the absolute bare minimum- make sure you take an hour for lunch, all breaks you are entitled to, and be sure you leave your desk exactly on time at the end of the day not one second more.

You know, it occurs to me that the best way to hurt rich people is by turning them into poor people. It would be a shame if a lot of expensive, unnecessary services kept getting approved accidentally over and over.

Is anything happening to those that are 100% remote later this year? Some have to go swipe once a quarter and others don’t.

I was in the office today when others got the email to report 3x week. They were angry about it of course. Some wanted an assigned desk now. If there is another wave of sending even more people into the office, there will be no room. I remember at one point there were talks about staggered desk schedules within your own team (one person goes in the morning and the other in the afternoon or you alternate days for the same desk. That never happened but now, who knows.

@b4 said in part: “ We might just become… innovative. Or fun. Or even a company people actually want to work for.”

Boomer here. We used to be this back in the HMC days. Doing interesting useful stuff. Working with great people and having a great time. We actually looked forward to coming in 5 days a week. AIP was at another level; not new Audi level, but new Chevy level. Management said “thank you” often. Then we got WellPointed, then Anthemized, then Elevanced, and it got worse each step. I beat them to the RIF; handed in my notice last Friday. It just wasn’t worth it anymore.

What happened to being flexible? I feel like this is a direct attack on women. I work 50+ hours a week, but I’m able to have flexibility in my day.

To OP and their multiple follow-up posts: sounds like you've got daddy/mommy issues w/ your obsessive distaste for the BB generation.
News flash: there are id--ts in every generation. And visionaries in every generation.
We just happen to have leadership that is infested with id--ts -- from multiple generations.
