Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

HMP

I’m really struggling to adjust to the no assigned seating. It’s really awful and a big downgrade to my quality of work life.

This + 4 days in office has me seeking new jobs away from Chevron.

But I guess that’s what the wanted

@en They confirmed during the office hours (when we were getting ready for the 2025 layoffs) that the benefit we used to have where CVX would pay to move you back, if you stayed for 1 or 2 years has been eliminated.

Financial and physical and mental health are all improved with remote work, for true professionals. Nothing more insulting than to suggest presence is better than productivity. Many companies across industries will be slowly watching solid performance erode and leave a huge knowledge gap if RTO threats remain, particularly in light of space shortages.

@bs interesting regarding the move. I thought the policy indicates that they’d only move you if you were within a 2 year window of being moved from your last location. How did you manage to get them to agree to it after 4 years?

Or maybe it’s just another benefit that’s been stripped away recently.

@br, that may not be possible if there are no more desks available. Badge in and find a location that makes you productive if there is not enough space by the boss. What else is there to do?

Ignore everything everyone is saying. They don’t have power over you.
If you need or want something different, go get it. Companies are looking for solid people and there are opportunities.
Get the job, the environment, or the money you want.
I left and got mine. Best decision ever, for me. Own your choice and ignore others.

The group that gets snarky with people preferring to WFH aren’t necessarily the boomers, but rather the field workers. You know, the group that gets half the year off.

@bj Well said Spoiled Slacker. As the original Slacker when I moved to Houston in the 2013 Transfer from SR, I absolutely did everything in my power to work from home. I’ll post all my best examples of avoiding the office and working from home on this site in the future. I managed with the 9/80 and six weeks vacation to pretty much work from home almost half of every year from 2013 till 2017 when I retired after 36 years. I moved back to the Bay Area after that. Yes, I can afford it. Now living in a 55 and older community in the East Bay and very happily retired. By the way Chevron paid me to relocate back to California after those 4 years of padding my pension. I still cannot believe they did that as it must have cost 6 digits in money to move us. But move I did. From an original Slacker to the new Spoiled Slacker good luck to you. Enjoy the fruits of your slackness!

@bh just be careful that your supervisor isn’t the kind that likes you to be at your desk the whole time. I’ve had some “feedback” that they want we sitting where they can see me.

@a5, most boomers are retired and the few I know sure don't want to have to commute and come in every day so who the heck are you even talking about?

I've found out of the way places to sit and work without interruption. It's not glamorous and it's a pain but I'm not going to give them the pleasure of running me out.

I don’t like not having an office either but I find it liberating that I can hide out in different places so people can’t just pop in and hassle me. Think of the bright side.

I had to work on a different floor because there weren’t enough desks for me to sit with my team.

It’s nothing more than forcing us to quit without severance. They hate US employees.

You don't like spending an hour commuting through the Houston hellscape just so you can set up your laptop in the cafeteria and work? The RTO Boomers will be along shortly to call you a spoiled slacker any minute now.
