Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Recalls can be prevented if Ford was not so Siloed. Dark Instrument Panel

This is sad, I reported many bugs (Jira’s) 3+ years ago when I worked as Ford as an Engineer. Then I was laid off (Paid to much?)

Wish Ford best of luck, but change is needed. Job market is bad,

I just saw this recall tonight on the news. I reported this with the Lightening 150 as the Cluster would just go dark multiple times when checking out the mule. Submitted logs and informed management. The bug left our group to who knows where. Obviously it was not followed up on.

I like dark IPs

That's not a dark IP failure. It's an enhanced distracted driving minimization feature. I bet Ford charged triple for that feature! Scarier yet, I bet most buyers will believe that!

We need to get back to the basics of building a vehicle - quit all the copying off the last dud and just start fresh, wipe the slate - forget the competitive tear-downs, what's the minimum that makes a vehicle viable - build on that.

I can't count the number of times I saw a pattern of parts replaced due to warranty claims. Usually, the responsible engineer does not respond, pick up said parts for further investigation and their management does intervene. It is the proverbial if I don't acknowledge it, it did not happen. So deflating to see it happen over and over. The amount of gaslighting that goes on to upper management is crazy!

That’s what Jira is for /s. Oh wait, I also have to send spreadsheets and emails outside of Jira because senior management doesn’t use it.

Dear senior management, please stop kingdom building and silos. No matter how many times you reinvent strategies every year, it takes about 3 weeks of routing until I get fed up and just pull the 8 VIPs that can actually do sh-t together and unblock their people. That is getting so, so, so old, as you can see by mismanagement of communication leading to so many recalls.

@bb

that's more than I'd do for Ford, in the same situation.

@bj

People care about as much as senior leadership cares about the workers. A one-sided relationship can only work for so long.

Well, that also shows another thing at Ford. Just point the finger at somebody else and says it's their problem. I found it, you fix it. Some would say, I didn't implement it so I don't know but if you do care then you try to figure out the cause and help solve it, not just report it. In the end, people just don't care enough and that's a cultural thing.

@OP I have had similar experiences trying to report concerns to management so now I don't share any concerns. When the parts fail and get recalled, they will realize they shouldn't have brushed off the concerns.

"Submitted logs and informed management"

What a sad state of affairs. It truly is.

Unfortunately recalls are now a part of Ford’s DNA. Skunkworks CE1 cost cutting and d-mb ideas will be filled with future recalls. That is what happens when you hand give a blank check to a bunch of Apple Cobblers who have zero automotive experience.

Yes, this is where more to come for recalls. The PROCESS is going to be a snow ball. Do you want to hear a funny part ? The people who made it up got PROMOTED !!! No f kidding LOL This is Ford !!!
