Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike Director+ (U.S.) Leadership Diversity Trends 2015 → 2024

Estimated — Nike Director+ (U.S.) Leadership Diversity Trends (2015 → 2024)

• White (non-Hispanic): ↓ 12% - 15%
• Non-White (racial/ethnic minorities): ↑ 45% - 60%
• Women: ↑ 20% - 30%
• Men: ↓ 15% - 20%
• Minority leadership: ↑ 30% - 40%
• Women in leadership: ↑ 15% - 20%

How this was constructed (summary):

• Uses Nike’s published FY2020–FY2021 Director+ race data (exact)
• Uses Nike’s reported minority % and gender % through FY2023/24 (exact totals)
• Extends back to 2015 using Nike’s stated multi-year progress and targets
• Applies simple interpolation/trend estimates where full yearly data is not disclosed
• All figures represent directional, magnitude-correct estimates — not fully disclosed year-by-year data
• Most detailed race data available: FY2020–FY2021 only
• Post-2021 reporting: aggregate minority % only (no race breakdown at Director+)

A previous poster in a separate thread challenged to build this based on historically reported information. There is enough publicly reported information to state the above is better than directional.

What does it mean? And what does this have to do with layoffs? Well, there is one group that clearly should be worried a bit more than others ahead of and during a layoff.

Act accordingly, and get out while you can.

@jx jealous much? Sad bc you will never get that type of role like ac ? Troll

@mn Look at Target for a case study of what happens when a company ignores social awareness. Are you truly that blind to think it has no value to a company like Nike?

@mp The "lefts" aren't the one in a populist cult. The fact people like you are out there trying to normalize what is going on is what shows lack of individual thought.

@m8 so true, since when did anyone buy a product because it represents a social cause, dangerous line to tow

@m8 I like to push woke talking points just to score political points with my coworkers. It’s an easy way to look compassionate and insightful without actually doing much.

Political correctness wrecked Nike. The only thing that should matter is making great product inspired by sport. That’s it. Until leadership actually focuses on that, the stock will remain in free fall.

Customers don’t care about the gender or skin color of executives. The irony is by acting like it matters, the company made itself more intolerant.

@OP+1kmgwg4zm congrats on reaching the ”2 Times/2X HOT TOPIC (2,000 Views/20 Replies)”. Unfortunately, you missed the views by about 6 hours; 2,000 by 48 hours. Nice work keeping the topic interesting. Will you try for 3 Times/3X hot topic by 72 hours?💵🪙💰

wouldn't say it means, if you're not a minority you're out
but would say if you are a minority, you're in a better position, but still not in a great position and you could be out too

also, maybe there are no layoffs or they are really small, just ongoing every few months, kinda like what's been happening for a long time anyway

really, no one knows, other than the vp's and hr

if not now, then when, and if later, then how much later, and how often in the future

questions no one can answer

but everyone should be looking for a new job, even just a little bit, because you never know and you when the ax falls, you want to be ready

@f2

No, direct correlation of a business losing a quarter of a trillion dollars in value to a hiring and promotion system wherein merit was second to race and gender is not possible.

Is it a mere coincidence this coincides with Nike’s struggles?

@e0 agreed. All for raising awareness, reducing bias, and ensuring we have equality in all of our practices. Both internal, and with our partners (vendors/suppliers/factories/etc…).

The method is what I think riles people up. Going past the point of an equal playing field… and tipping it in favor for one group over another is as far off the mark as the previous. Trading one flavor of discrimination for another.

This of course comes to life during layoff season. Knowing what Nike prefers as an organization (promotion and retention) can aid people in making career decisions.

@dr You can appreciate the goal and still criticize the method. The phrase "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater comes to mind"

@dq …so you’re saying all of the posts challenging this thread (and all of the vote/reactions) are double agent MAGA posters. Right.

It would seem there is a great appetite for DEI initiatives, so long as we don’t publish the data behind it.

@dk The hate is coming from right wing MAGA guzzling extremists pretending to be left leaning because their dear leader told them DEI is bad

by

Post ID: @dq+1kmgwg4zm

What’s with all the hate? I thought Nike was making great progress on the DEI front.

I get why one group may not like this. But the hate seems to be coming from left leaning posters that otherwise would seemingly support DEI.

Shouldn’t we be celebrating these numbers? Is it that the information is inaccurate? Or that we don’t want it publicized? Is it that it isn’t enough progress?

@cs Environmental, Social, and Governance Not a term you hear nearly as much as DEI but I think it predates it since the (S) is what people consider DEI

@be none the less, you can't deny the general theme when you look at the content over the years (that 2020 era was some heavy loaded stuff, and many companies faulted by it)

2015–2017: Nike treats sustainability like an engineering problem
2018–2019: ESG becomes external-facing and investor-relevant
2020–2021: DEI Takes Center Stage, ESG becomes social + political positioning
2022–2024: ESG becomes how Nike runs the company

now that last point, 'how nike runs the company' - is that the right move?
2015-2019 - seems ok
2020-2021 - seems not ok
2022-2024 - no, companies are run on innovation and blowing their competitors out of the water, not ESG first

and here we are....wow!

@b9 More LLM slop, you just asked it to find the links for each impact report. Lets see, 2015 impact report
Global Employees: 48% Female, 52% Male

Current
Global Employees: Female: 51%, Male: 49%

Yet your AI slop says a whopping 20-30% increase in women.

Try again with a little effort, troll

Got it. Posting factual data built on publicly available information is racist.

Calling all white men that worked at Nike before a certain period “hacks” is not racist.
