Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Any layoffs after Q2 results especially in IT ? I know Cisco does stealth layoffs.

I was laid off after Q1 results were announced, even though there was no formal announcement of any cuts by the company. Came as quite a surprise.
They are doing stealth cuts every quarter, may not be a high number that they need to announce, but its happening every quarter.

A -1.2% YoY margin dip (still 67.5% non-GAAP last quarter) is apparently enough to trigger P&L contractor cuts across multiple teams I know of.

When contractors handle production and operational bandwidth, cutting them doesn’t eliminate the work — it just slows it. Teams are being asked to “do more with less” as usual.

On the bright side, the company continues to sit on $15.5B+ in cash.

@r0 Got any more details? It’s pretty clear the org feels a bit bloated.

Splunk CS is getting cooked in the next few weeks. Not announced yet but the list is being made.

Your leadership is doing quarterly LRs for org budget purposes only. It’s very poor management by your leadership. It’s been happening since CR has been CEO [John Chambers ejected 27% in Cisco's first layoff almost 25 years ago].

FTFY.

Chambers was a disciple of "Neutron" Jack Welch who brought us the modern layoff, rank-n-yank, etc... After Chambers executed Cisco's first layoff in 2001, taking out 27%, the stock spent most of his remaining 14 years flapping around $25. The moniker "neutron" was for his ability to eliminate the bodies while leaving the buildings intact.

@ed Cisco is hiring over 500 positions just in the US on their job site. Then why are departments cutting to save money ?? Bizzare.

It only creates a toxic work environment, back biting, stress, poor team performance and sleepless nights.

Sorry you were impacted because of awful management.

My direct manager said there’s a way to avoid the layoff. But I must start by calling him “daddy”. Since I can’t find any job that will pay the same as Cisco. I gave in. So daddy it is until I can find a new job or career that will pay just as much.

Thank you for listening to my rant. HR should do a better job of investigating things like this. I’m sure there’s more daddies out there doing the same thing.

Layoffs will continue especially in tech (anything) as AI takes over (routine jobs, software developers, testing, management, etc.). This is the future of all companies.
