We’re all worried, and for good reasons. Everyone’s throwing around random numbers and dates, and it’s making things worse. Being snarky because someone’s anxious about their job isn’t helping anyone. Most of us are in the same boat - stressed about debt, bills, and the worrying lack of opportunities out there.

@bk what's the class action settlement suit all about?
@bs what does this mean? The company was going to move staff into a big miami lease for southeast regional or south America business opportunities? And that was cancelled?
@by an all-hands meeting scheduled days in advance would be like an SVP level addressing the org. The worst news would be that there will be layoffs, in general, and not the type of meeting for doling out individual notices of involuntary termination.
The people have been laid off have come in to work to find same-day meetings scheduled at the beginning or within 2 hours of the start of their shift, with cryptic wording like “business update”.
What invite, how long is it for? 1pm seems really late in the day, hopefully its nothing bad.
I got the invite at 1pm. Let’s ride!
@br which workgroup?
@b0 there’s barely 10 weeks left in the calendar year, which ends on a Wednesday. If you received an off-payroll date of Dec 31, you would be cutting close, exactly 10 weeks down to the day, from today. If you come back for even a single work day, just to see if you have a meeting, that one day worked may let them lay you off before your STD converts to LTD.
New Miami building for value lease canceled. Moving all jobs to NJ, attrition baked in.
I'm really sorry for what you are all going through. Fear of being RIF'd is horrible. I was RIF'd from Verizon in December. It was the best thing that happened to me, got a payout, and then a new job which paid better but also has better job security.
I know it's hard at the moment and the market isn't great, but things are picking up out there. My own mental anxiety has improved greatly since leaving Verizon behind.
@bp can't be over weeks and be off the books by the end of the year due to warn deadlines. Warn requires a 60 day filing. This is the week so they don't have any lay periods extend to the new year. This is how it always has happened.
Those who are moving the goal posts are doing so because their predictions aren't coming true.
hearing the same percents others have posted. not all will happen tomorrow but over the next few weeks. new ceo-new ways of getting stuff done. it's going to be a different company by next year.
@bg remember the more people that are laid off is a larger one time hit on the budget for severance packages at the same time they are getting big hits to finance, Frontier, Starry, and a 100 million dollar class action settlement** not to mention the rumors popping up today about another acquisition of some satellite company. RIF's are big cash hits at the time they are already strapped. bg
I keep hearing the 15 to 20% number two which comes out to 15 K or 20 K. I don’t know how the company would even run if you laid off that many people. They would have to include Frontline retail reps to get to that number, which means you’d have to convert a few of the remaining corporate stores to indirect.
Most corporate staff is somewhat paralyzed due to staffing issues and everything being sent overseas.
@be clarify. Staggered notifications meaning what? Over days, weeks, months!??
15k-20k reduction. Staggered notifications across various BUs.
@ba in the past I haven’t heard of HR actually sending invite or even attending the call/meeting. Here in GNT it’s typically just been the sr manager giving the news.
@az I think people are numb. Being RIF’d, especially near the holidays is just tough. I personally been through it and it’s rough. Whether 50 comments last time and 12 now, we all have bills to pay and the job market out there is tough, adding to the anxiety we all are feeling. Praying it’s just not true.
No one has received the 9am 15 min HR call yet for tomorrow???
If you are sick of worrying, join a union. Our contracts are for five years and you are protected during that time. We negotiate for you, if something happens, we support you even if you are out of a job. Don't let suits who make hundreds of millions per year control whether you have food on your table.
I heard 15-20% from management.
I'd prefer to know this week rather than later because folks are already starting to spend time worrying rather than working.
Heard layoffs in rolling meadows tomorrow
@aq yes
But not effective until day you return.
@OP there won’t be layoffs while the pulse survey is open.
I’m on maternity leave (STD portion) and have 10 weeks left including VPL. I’m still on FMLA. Am I protected? It would be f’d to lay me off on leave…. 🤦♀️
Why I don't think it is going to be bad.
Crickets on social media about it. Nothing on X, Facebook, Linkedin. On this site last layoffs had 50 or more posts with hundreds of thumb reacts for each. Now less than 12 posts and 20 or less thumb reacts, same as any other post.
Sure there will be something but not as near big as people worry about.
I guess we will see tomorrow. But I don't believe anyone who says they heard a rumor.
@ap I think they are buying Frontier because if they didn't then it would have gone bankrupt and T or Att would have gotten them for a song. Don't forget we never fully separated from them they were still selling Tv powered by Fios in old FiOS areas. We still colocated a ton of Plant and switch buildings with them. So our competition would have a hand in our infrastructure.
@aq conditionally yes, if you wouldn’t have already transitioned to LTD benefits by your off-payroll date. There’s no real trick to reactively taking STD to avoid layoffs. You’d have had to have been on STD for 4 months already to beat the 2 month off-payroll date, etc., or having recently returned from that much leave within the past 90 days, since LTD doesn’t kick in until 26 weeks. The only time that would have worked is after the HCL announcement, where you stayed on VZ payroll until you came off STD or transitioned to LTD and kept your VZ health coverage.
The only system that runs 100 percent of the time in Verizon is the Rumor mill. It is rarely right but it is always running.
Anyone know if an employee is out on approved short term disability … can they still be RIF’D?
Rumor mill says tomorrow is the day for 15% of us. We will see. Sadly over the last 3 years three major RIFs & VSP. This is just the wrong call. It’s not the team. They lose the CEO but not the CFO. Why? Seems like the promises made from Finance didn’t make sense. Why are we buying Frontier? Why are we forcing people back into offices for an additional day when work from home saves the company money? Close up more dead space and sell it or rent it out! Forget NYC 2 PENN. I don’t want to lose my job because someone at the top of the food chain wants to have a Manhattan view. Shame on you, Verizon. The team is what makes Verizon great.
I don’t know anything specific except I’ve heard from very reliable people that it’s a 15% reduction across the board.
All job reqs frozen
WARN notifications have to be filed 60 says before a reduction (last day off payroll).
Historically fourth qtr rif are notified Wednesday and Thursday before the final paycheck in October so all notifications happen prior to the 60 day filing notice.
Except for stragglers, you'll now tomorrow at the latest if you are impacted unless you are out of office on leave.
