@bf RIFs have always been all year, every year. You just don't notice because they're not big enough.
Some tidbits for you:
(1) There's a RIF tracker. This is regularly reported within HR. It's a literal report that goes to corporate. At any given time, you can see all RIFs going on all over the world.
(2) A RIF can be just one person, just one particular position, even. It doesn't have to be hundreds. If you want to lay off a single role (lay off, not fire for performance, etc) you have to request and report it that way.
(3) There are blackout dates. These are the dates that no exit dates are allowed, such as Christmas, Labor Day, different countries public holidays, earnings calls, etc.
You will worry yourselves less if you're aware that RIFs always were and always have been happening, all the time. 95% of the time, the average employee has no idea a RIF has even happened.
The only ones people here talk about are the big ones.

RIF’s at MDT have become an annual event, which is mentally exhausting. However I know everything will work out one way or another. Most of my peers that had been impacted in the past are happy and doing well. Some are even back working as contractors at MDT, after getting their severance package, which is too funny. I just can’t believe G.M. is still our CEO.
Makes sense why no one has been added to csuite. All backfills have been moved to reporting to csuite.
It’s gonna be a bloodbath. Diabetes exit means more corp fat to spread into OUs. OUs are gonna get sla-ghtered because GM and his EXCOM cronies protect their own.
So May 5th? With invitations on May 4th? Great!
