Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Can Ford IT report me for a broken laptop?

My laptop seemed to find its way behind my cars rear tire parked in my garage. So as you expect, leaving for work, I backed over the laptop with both rear and front tires. I picked up a loaner laptop from IT, telling them I got to travel soon. Eventually I’m going to have to bring my broken laptop in to IT. What can I tell them when they comment the laptop looks so much thinner and ask me why the laptop lid will no longer open?

Of course they can report you. Whether they will or not is another story.

You should think about getting some help. If you destroyed your laptop or just want people to think you did, your unhappiness may be deeper than just not liking your job.

@OP. Check the date for your laptop renewal in the Eassets page. If it is closed by, just wait until then. Ford IT receives the laptops without power bricks or accessories, which means they throw then away.

If you can get all the content of your laptop out, and pass it to the loaner, it will be easier to transfer it to the new laptop.

If you cannot wait for the renewal date, then go in person to the depot and talk to someone. Ford IT are not ogres, and they have seen worse.

@OP Mine got broken a little bit back with damaged keys.
The computer center folks were making inquiries into how is it possible for the laptop to sustain such damage from the top.
I told them I had an upset stomach and had a critical meeting to call into, so I had to take the meeting from the bathroom with my laptop, while looking them directly in the eye. I gave a few "you know how it goes . . . " every now and the throughout the conversation.

  • No further questions, they didn't even want to touch it after.
Think it through and strategically provide your answers, this goes for your performance reviews as well...

Hope that you like you new laptop when it comes in !

The LLs treat the M-plates and lease cars like demolition derby vehicles.

OP you're worried about a broken laptop? You should have seen some of the internal insurance claims on management lease cars. Some of these cars came back 100% trashed after LL's drove them into trees, cement mixers and fire hydrants. These were not isolated instances either, they happened all the time and they rarely got in trouble. I wouldnt worry about 1 laptop. Start worrying if its the 8th laptop that you've run over.

Tell them the truth...it doesn't really matter what happened to it. Ford is self insured, and this is a drop in an ocean of offset costs. Carry on!

@bf This sounds exactly like what HR would say if they took a company car and crashed into a tree. They would get away with it too. Some poor kid would get blamed. Not some rich kid

I can relate. I was driving a company vehicle, and crashed into a tree. The tree just darted out from nowhere, so it wasn’t my fault, but I’m still being blamed for it.

@am I'm not incompetent! I went to a prestigious ivy school! It's not my fault my GPA didn't translate to practical skills in the workforce. I'm learning from a new hire on the job, but they didn't go to a better school. That means I'm smarter, I played the system again.

It doesn't matter, tell them that you won't have a coding environment to work on the deliverables anyway, and they will end up giving it to another worker further down the line for that same objective of distributing a workhorse's work so they don't rise up. Haven't you noticed that you don't meet the skill qualifications for your role, alongside peers around you? Huddled up in a Team's meeting?

Next time, check if your body is warm and then you'll have your answer. Your laptop issue is irrelevant in the bigger picture anyway, it's manufactured deniability. We appreciate you completing your goal. While we're here, can you break the loaned one too?

@OP @a7 Obvious memetic warfare to boost morale of IT/HR (primarily HR) by mocking the workforce incompetent. This was severely disrespectful, you know very well that we are all in this together, equally incompetent. Corporate revenge sleep has gone far enough. How will you both ever pretend to earn your keep with half a tank of gas, especially at the average tolerance levels there.

It's not your fault that Ford IT/HR did not confirm to you that the laptop was not to be used as a wheel chock when not logged into the Ford network. This company can't do anything right lately.
