@fd 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 365 weeks in… 7 years…?

@eq lockers? So you mean the things that are allowed for use on a limited basis. Like anyone with an all electric car being allowed to use for a 4 hour shift till they move their car.

They don’t want or allow us to use the lockers all the time (ie 24/7/365 like an assigned seat) Plus limited availability. I never could get one and some sites don’t have enough or don’t have any.

@eq idk about the other person but back when I had an assigned desk I had microwave ready oatmeal packets and snacks in the desk drawers. Bottled water (the water machines always tasted metallic and dirty). Sodas. Wipes/hand sanitizer (even before COVID as I am a germaphobe don’t tell me use the ones in the office as they are not always stocked plus are still dirty from others hands). Coffee mugs. Notebooks, pens, phone charge cables. A Headset. Stress ball. And a picture of the kids on my desk to make it feel more like home as the other commenter said.

I also left my laptop locked to the desk when I knew I didn’t need it that night or weekend. Like why risk getting it broke or stolen on the train/bus. Plus it was actual work life balance.

Things I didn’t want to lug in every day. I’m sure other people had even more than I did. But it was nice to have a place at the company that was “ours” even though it was not permanent and had to be boxed often re orgs and re stacks to a new cubicle.

They could just make 50% of the office come in one week, and the other half come in the following week. Make sure the half in the office is at least in the same org so some collaboration can be had. Then we could go down to 50% RTO (instead of 60% right now) but ensure each person is there at the same time as the people they work with, and for the entire day. The way Fidelity does it with their Connect Weeks. The ones out in frisco who don’t work with anyone in the office anyway, just let them be. They have to live in Texas which is punishment enough. But that would take too much brain power, not something TIAA is exactly known for.

Slim chance because we need to stay competitive especially in the Frisco market. Our pay scale isn’t that competitive amongst others but hybrid is a big selling point that’s working in our favor. That’s why HR is targeting coffee badgers and mouse jigglers to subtly send the message to stop.

@eq back in the day, I would keep a headset at work and at home, would leave a pair of tennis shoes in my desk locker, a jug of protein powder. And I liked leaving my laptop locked to the desk and leave it at the office. Just carrying a lunch bag and a book was nice.

@em Just curious, what stuff are you lugging in? A laptop? The company now provides lockers for overnight storage for those who need it.

I know it’s an unpopular opinion but if some associates can be 100% remote then ALL associates should have the option. Conversely, if some associates have to be on the office 3,4, or 5 days a week then ALL associates should have to do the same.

That also means it applies to EC and ALL levels below. The friction we all feel comes from the inequality created by having some remote workers vs others that are hybrid, with no real disclosure as to why certain employees are allowed while others are not.

Yes, this is the rational solution and nothing here at this dumpster fire is done rationally…

@be dude, do you realize how many in IT and systems support are WFH? If so I really hope you are not a people leader or have no authority or interaction with upper management.

If you remove them, without at least offering relocation to the nearest office, the company and subsidiaries will die almost instantly. It would be really difficult to replace those decades of knowledge of our convoluted customized systems.

This coming from a once long tenured TIAA associate impacted by the Denver closure layoff. Getting rid of all WFH, specifically on the IT side, would be absolute chaos.

@ek yeah, I’d they bring us back, which would su-k, an assigned desk would be nice. I’d like to stop lugging all my stuff in.

Probably will be announced after Denver officially closes... perhaps the first week of August or September. May not be fully involved until 1/1/27 because, Charlotte (unless more there are let go for coffee badging or sold to Accenture).

If this is confirmed from folks who mentioned/confirmed a lot of the past changes is true, I hope they go back to assigned desks if they expect people to be there 5 days at 8 hours a week.

Hoteling is such a pain for 3 days let alone 5.
Let people feel like they are "home" again pre pandemic era having their own desks and germs on their keyboards lol.

TIAA should first remove all fully WFH employees.

Only 5 days a week? I’d love to go into the office 7 days a week.

Might bring a sleeping bag.

I hope so! I’m coffee badging as much as humanly possible, so when I leave hopefully they will have reverted back to 5 days RTO and all the superior boomers who love the office so much and are basically stuck at TIAA because they have zero transferrable skills will have to go in everyday. Enjoy!

I do not have first hand knowledge of this, but it seems to be the direction the company is headed. From what I've heard, there isn't enough space (at least in Charlotte?) to make that happen yet. So maybe more layoffs or outsourcing first? I also suspect they'll pull back more on those that are full time remote. Again, just my guess based on things I've heard. I don't know any time frames or have solid confirmation that is coming.
