Thread regarding SAP layoffs

I need to be safe

Is there anything I can do to make sure I am safe?

I absolutely need to be safe.

What can I do?

Find a dark, warm place. Like a closet. Go in to the dark, warm place (again, maybe a closet). Close the door. Stay in there. If anyone comes looking for you, don't make any noise. Stay in the dark, warm place forever.

Do us all a favor.

Safety is not possible when you are working for other people. Work hard, make sure your team knows it, live below your means, and keep your resume and network ready. No matter how hard anyone works, sometimes they just get cut or passed over for promotion. Control what you can control and accept what you cannot.

Feeling safe has nothing to do with working at SAP or whatever company. CK and it's minion DA should have no power on your feelings. You just need to remember that your life is not permanent anyway and that clock is ticking no matter what. Knowing that, you can decide to fear death, poverty unemployment everyday, or you can decide to enjoy life while you still can.

If you disagree with the above, and still fear you'll be fired one day... Well at least I recommend you to work less, so that you can better enjoy your personal life. Then if you are fired, at least you'll know why.

@be That is nearly true.

There is one person who is safe.

Chuck Norris.

@OP First, sorry about some of the more flippant responses. In my humble opinion, to be truly safe in your career is to become your own boss. You could start while at SAP to build a "side hussle" that you can fall back on in hard times, or to create a little nest egg if you do get canned from SAP. Also, always remember that you WILL receive severance and you WILL get to use unemployment insurance (if in North America). So you will not be left high and dry immediately. The key is actually to start now -- either your own side biz or looking for another job. Be prepared, boy scout!

@OP

Encase yourself in multiple layers of bubble wrap and hide under the bed.

The most practical way to stay safe at SAP is to make sure you're on birth control if you attend any in-person meetings or after-hours activities. Also never leave your drink unattended.

You will never be safe at SAP or anywhere else. Even government jobs aren’t guaranteed these days. Best advice I can give you is to stay on top of your career, look at what the market wants, keep learning and build your network.

Do whatever Loretta R tells you to do, or she will have you removed. Just don't follow her sales strategy or you’ll go broke.

Your performance has absolutely nothing to do with the RIF decisions. Trust me.

To enhance your standing at work, consider a few strategic actions.

First, ensure that your manager rates you favorably during performance reviews; a nice dinner or thoughtful gifts can help foster goodwill.

You might also explore opportunities in growth areas like Signavio, where budgets for travel and entertainment remain robust despite cost-cutting elsewhere in the company.

Building a rapport with your HR business partner can be beneficial, as they often have insights into potential layoffs.

Additionally, cultivating relationships with top management can be advantageous, as they are key decision-makers.

Finally, actively engage in projects that are considered significant or involve AI, as these are likely to be prioritized.

Nothing that you can do, as the previous reply said if you are not in Germany or France, it will always be a long walk off a short plank.

@OP I am sorry but nope - unless you are based in Germany or France where is harder to get rid of people. Even high visible leaders conveniently leave the company when a new leader is appointed, the difference is that they do it with a big check in their pockets. If you are a normal employee is just luck. Nonetheless it looks like they are targeting T4 or people close to T4 and people with good salaries or length of service. You are T1 or T2 and cheap, you may have some time... Maybe this year, maybe next, maybe never... This is our new reality, spreadsheets don't care about personal circumstances, only about the cost saving result.
