However they still have to pay any accrued vacation balances to anyone that has a balance regardless if they change their vacation policy, or the reason an employee leaves.

Of course again only applies in the handful of states that require it by law.

Seems like more and more Corporations want to provide the least amount of comp/benefits to the majority of employees so they can over incent and over comp the C-Suite, VP's and a some of their top engineering talent.

@163 last year hpe implemented unlimited PTO. Moving forward now they don't have to pay anybody out on accumulated vacation time since it no longer exists.

It’s was 11 weeks plus 2 days for every year 12+. If you have vacation in your bank you also get that. Health care and other benefits end on your last day of active work. Go to the hpe benefits page and type in us wfr faq’s for the overview of wfr benefits in US or global benefits.

I have heard the standard lately is two weeks per year of service. For you that would be 40 weeks.

Quick clarification...there are four states in the US where companies are legally required to pay out unused (accrued) vacation. I can't remember all four but two of them are California and Nebraska. All other states it is at the employers discretion..From what I have heard from colleagues around the US living in those 'optional' states..none were paid out their unused vacation. I was laid off last year and because I was very aware of this law in my state, I took very little vacation (as the writing was on the wall)..along with my severance they had to pay me 11 weeks vacation. They weren't happy, but they paid.

10 weeks for the first 10 years and then 2 days for each additional year.

I believe it is now 2 days for every year of service
0 for unused vacation, as they changed our policy, unless you have anything that was grandfathered in.

Using the math from when I was RIFed a few years ago, you'd get 32 weeks:

2 Weeks notice
8 Weeks severance period
20 Weeks for years of service (one week per year of service)
2 Weeks for unused vacation time (as required by my state)

But, as others have suggested, there's no longer any standard, your miles may vary and you might just get a steaming pile.

there isn't a single typical one now. Some are great and others are mid. Some have been offered retirement packages and very good medical. Others have been offered as low as 12 weeks.
