Thread regarding Texas Instruments Inc. layoffs

Product Execution?!?!?

Heard a lot of this was due to poor product execution?!? TI did not deliver on a quality product to a customer and had to sell off what they could and make major cost adjustments internally?!?! Anyone can confirm or deny this. Or is this the same BS spiel given every single RIF?!?!?!

A lot of this is due to the older fabs that were predicted to decline soon and so TI can invest in the more capable 300mm fabs. We all knew it was coming since the semicondutor market has slowed down, especially for the older technologies. Still, it's never easy to see hard working people get laid off when they poured their hearts into their job.

@bf I can tell you that RFAB MFG supervisors didn’t know a single thing about the reality of the job. They didn’t understand what the processes were or how to even operate the fab software

It's because of:

  1. The analog semiconductor market is in a downturn...demand is lower, and wafer starts have decreased.
  2. Competition outside of the U.S. (China) + Tariffs.
  3. C-Suite wants to keep their bonuses.

@bc they were unaffected (this time). If TI hadn't bought NSC things would be much worse.

TI’s main problem is that the leadership positions are filled with people who neither has an understanding of engineering nor possesses any leadership skills. Replacing American labor with Indian labor can’t fix this fundamental issue…

@a7 that largest customer has a dedicated team for their execution with numerous products in the pipeline. I’m doubtful these layoffs have anything to do with them. If anything, these layoffs only jeopardize that execution.

Seems unlikely. TI doesn’t have single products that can make or break the company. Making the largest customer very angry could maybe cause something like this, but I haven’t heard anythin about that.
