Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Micromanagement is deeply demoralizing

I’ve been in this field for over 20 years. I know my job, and I do it well. But here, none of that matters. I’m constantly monitored, every break tracked, every click watched. Managers hover like I just started yesterday. It’s demoralizing. I’m treated like I can’t be trusted to do the work I’ve done for decades. No room for judgment or independence, just rigid control and second-guessing. I didn’t expect to end my career being micromanaged like an intern.

EXACTLY, same here. Doing my job 20+ years, do it very well and meet “speediness”. It’s my license they use, not the other way around. Wish they would remember that.

@bb Sounds like you are being gaslit by an insecure manager. You should check out the post on this site called "Is your manager gaslighting you".

Try working here 30 years and your department has this thing called Gatherer that monitors your every move. How long you are idle. Productive. Non productive. How long your in email. Excel etc then get a daily report and compares you to other people in your departments productivity using anonymous names. So if going back to the office is to make sure people work . believe me it can easily be tracked. I don't even know if my newest manager uses it maybe just don't get a report anymore.

Go back to saving lives. It means something, makes you feel good about yourself, and helps others. Can you say the same about your work with Elevance? I know I can’t.

I got hired about 6 months ago after working in the ICU for many years now Case Management. My calls are listened to and scored, my work is examined and scored, I have multiple metrics to meet every month. If I don't make the grade so to speak, I get told by my Lead that I will be on performance improvement plan and may lose my job.

I knew I would have goals or "metrics" - but I haven't been given a score since I was in school. Last year I saved lives now I can't even talk to a member or document endlessly without being examined, scored, scolded by a lead or a manager that hasn't touched a patient in many years. No one told me it would be this way.
