Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

They'll let us wait even longer

I don’t expect we’ll hear anything concrete about layoffs anytime soon. Not enough people have quit on their own yet. They’ll keep dragging this out, torturing us until they’re satisfied they’ve pushed out as many as possible without severance before finally paying us to leave.

Fully expect you two to settle this with a thumb war or some sort of virtual dance off

Yes, in some countries Chevron has to pay severance by law. You do realise Chevron doesn’t just exist in the US, right? Outside the US is where vast amounts of Chevron’s global revenue originates.

@bb Do you realize that paying severance is not something CVX has to do right? You talk with such entitlement you deserve a good kick out the door. If you worked so hard and for so long you should be financially prepared for this; but maybe you did not…

No, for me it's quite the opposite, @bb+, I am happy to go and continue my career elsewhere and I value the experience and education that Chevron has provided me, although not all of it was positive. Your future is in your own hands unless you somehow think someone is controlling you? Why would that be? I have a bright and promising future thanks to hard work and enduring the stress at Chevron and the job offers that I have received reflect that.

Never underestimate the stubbornness of an employee determined to get severance. I can wait. And use up all the EAP & mental health benefits to which I have access while I wait. Why? ‘Cause you destroyed my future, and you have made working at CVX a living h3II for years, with the constant threat of layoffs, lack of promotions for years, and paltry raises to the average employee, while MW’s compensation in those same years increased significantly. I want what’s mine, what I have EARNED busting my a$$ year after year. So, you can keep stringing us along with your layoff timeline, but I’m not going ANYWHERE.

Of course they will continue with R2 if R1 fails.
No one falls for the sunk cost fallacy like Chevron.

Remember when they doubled down on sour crude when every other major industry player saw the writing on the wall?

Will Engine round two happen if engine round one fails to deliver?

They’re not slow rolling anything. Probably just thinking of a clever name like Project Wegov: Right-Sizing the Organization. The big news in Feb will be new company structure and rough % layoffs. Will be followed by L1 and L2 org charts that will indicate how many exec positions they’re cutting or combining, and then the exercise cascades from there. ENGINE is separate, and those impacts are already known for 2025. The fun part is they’re not done after Project Wegov and ENGINE R1, because ENGINE R2 will be executed. It will be a fun few years to be an American in this American company.

That’s fine, I can do this year in and year out.
