Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

I am going to write down the name and dept of every person I talk to, everyday - and I intend to talk to everyone I see - and when I come back the next day - "HI Bill!!! We met yesterday, have you thought of any way we can collaborate, no? Can you try and we can talk again later" (rinse and repeat). I am going to be known for my loud talking, really loud laugh, my need for clicking my pen and/or tapping my pencil. Eat crunchy food at my desk, spill my drinks on the floor, and sweep my trash 2 "desks "over before I leave. Cause that is what I do at home - so it's my norm. And don't call me names, I work at home now and do all of this and no one has a problem.

I’m excited to go in! I’m just going to bring a fish lunch every day and cook it in the microwave. For snack I am going to burn a bag of popcorn every single day. That’s if I can get my hall pass to go to the bathroom. I’m sure we’re going to be time about how long we spend in the bathroom as well; they probably are going to start monitoring our water consumption when washing her hands as well as toilet paper and paper towel usage . Maybe I’ll just keep a Gatorade bottle next to my cubicle. I fully intend on speaking on speakerphone for every call. Since I don’t work with anybody in the office, I’m at. I’m gonna make sure I say hi to people I don’t know. This way when they passed me in the hall, I can be overdramatic and say their name. “Steve! We should go to the cafeteria and buy some overpriced food!”

So if we’re regressing back to the 1950s then does that mean we can smoke and drink openly in the office and sneak a sh-g in the broom closet? I mean if we’re obsessed with going backwards let’s convince everyone the world is flat too. Here we are in a day and age of the best technology and living quantitative proof that remote work for most jobs is superior to in office nonsense in terms of productivity, efficiency and culture. Yes! Culture. Forced socialization is good for no one. All these things supporting the case for WFH. And yet we want to revert to walking in our knuckles. These big companies just want buildings so they can swing their d$&@s and beat their chests. Whatever “kickback” deals they are getting to fund and justify their concrete prisons they would save three fold by keeping three main headquarters (one in each time zone) for thoughtful meaningful hybrid interactions and close shop with the other senseless locations and see operational efficiency and savings (not to mention employee retention and productivity) rise!

Yes believe it or not, many of us have been long-term employees working from home productivity for that long. AND YES we work damn hard.

I honesty don’t think anymore people will be sent to an office this year. They are going to see the impact of the 3x a week and then go from there. Certain organizations within the company simply don’t care how far away you are. I remember using apple and google maps with my leadership and they showed HR to prove I was easily over an hour and over 50 miles. They don’t care!

More lack of planning at Hellavance - make a decision to bring x number of people in the office now and going forward - but don't make any assessments about work space, parking, hassle factor of being unable to leave equipment in place - no plug and play - no have a set up that you can walk up to and connect your lap top to monitors - no thought about putting people who need to talk to members all day together like cattle so they can share the noise with the customer - who says "what, what " they knew they were doing this long before they announced it - and they will make everyone back in 2026 count on it

So, I'm currently 100% remote and have always been since starting here. My office is an hour away from my home and I am NOT a manager or above. Does this mean come 2026 I have to go into the office? If so, that means I will have no choice to resign. Any information greatly appreciated b/c I need to start looking for a new gig asap.

Wow, using the word “cruel” and RTO in the same sentence shows how far people have lost their minds.

I’ve worked for different companies in NC and Boston during the Obama administration and always had to pay to park far away and walk or bus myself in… we are just extra good at finding excuses to get pi---d off and rant about it now. Stop bi--hing and do your work.

We will have the exact same situation except it will be seats in the EH offices since half of the offices don't have enough cubicles to order all assigned staff back in three days a week, much less five days a week. What am I supposed to do when I drive 50 minutes to get to the office and there are no cubicles left? Get in the car and go back home? Try to use the laptop wi-fi from a bathroom stall and hope the battery doesn't die.....?

Here’s another perspective- the RTO strategy at ELV started more than a year before our most recent presidential vote - so seemingly blaming half the country for this “cruel situation “ is a bit of a stretch to say the least. Let’s leave the political finger pointing out of this as history demonstrates that this issue was very much of a reality during the previous administration.
