Believing in unions is like believing in Santa Claus.

Except unions will take your money, destroy merit, and be as corrupt as management with no oversight.

You're better off believing in Santa Claus.

We were told a long time ago in the Czech office that if a union looked like it would start, they'd close both branches (Prague and Brno) ASAP. For all the self-professed lefties in tech, they do NOT like unions.

OP, you are more than a little late. Unionizing now is like trying to upgrade your how owners insurance because your house is on fire. You needed to form a union years ago for them to matter now but you were making good money back than and not worried about anything...

In decades of my career and working in various countries I have never ever seen an IT labor union anywhere. It is not going to change.

IBMers tried this and the reality is that for most tech workers it simply doesn’t make sense. Our jobs are highly portable, many (sales) are performance-based and currently susceptible to AI-driven displacement.

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t point out the impact on the American Auto Industry. The UAW has certainly been fantastic for members who manage to stick around, but it also gutted the industry and entire areas of the U.S.

I’m sympathetic to your sentiments here, but unionizing (alone, at least) won’t fix employment in the U.S. I say that as I wait for the outcome of this latest round of demoralizing layoffs with the rest of you.

@b9 then form a union instead of just talking about it. Money is power and the 1% have more money. If you have worked in hi tech for any amount of time and you are still poor than that is on you and your spending habits. Most people leave tech well above the top 5% mark so you really don't have much to complain about.

@b4 lol 10 billion was extracted from Oracle last year. Someone's getting rich annually and it isn't the employees.

If a union gets rich at least it's someone who'll get me a raise consistent with inflation.

In the 60s, the %1 received %20 of all income nationally. By the 90s that was %30. Now it's %50. It's not unions getting rich. There's less of the pie for more than %90 to survive on. Wake the fu-k up or their gonna eat the rest of the pie

This is the union troll from the unions. Go look at others companies on this site. Any company going through layoffs has the union troll show up. The underlying message, form a union so the union can get rich off you too. Go look at the auto workers, they get laid off all the time and they have unions representation. Trucking used to be heavily unionized now look at them.

Anyone that thinks a union is the answer must have majored in Women's Studies in college.
