Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

What the degree got me at US Bank

I have a masters degree. Spent years and money getting it. Did the same job as people without one for less money. When I left, they hired someone with no degree at all. Then I learned they paid them ten grand more than I ever got. The difference? They're good at su-king up. That's the only skill that matters here.

@OP See that Gender studies MBA was never worth it. Maybe next time.

@OP A master's degree is not needed to excel at the bank. Some people have made it quite far without a bachelors degree. Work experience matters.

@OP Guessing they had more real experience versus some useless degree and did the job better than you. Maybe they knew their worth and how to negotiate. So much for your masters degree… in what ? Gender studies? Definitely not business.

Masters degrees don't matter when you have a hoard of foreign invaders with fake PhD credentials they bought from East Dehli University. I'd suggest visiting india and making a donation

@bz not at all. I have a BS from a state school and had no connections before joining. And Im a PM in icg. You probably lacked relevant experiences.

Nobody cares about your masters degree. You wasted your money.

You got a Masters degree so deserve more money. Someone else without a Masters degree got same position and made 10k more than you, therefore they su-k up and that’s all that matters not the degree.

The only thing your degree will do for you
Is put your hand up a little higher in a crowd applying for positions. Your work ethic, willingness to learn new skills, and determination will get to more money and better opportunities. The person who they hired in the same role making more than you probably had past experience in a similar role. Degree doesn’t equal superior. Best of luck

@b9 You sound like an 8th grade dropout at best. Be gone, fool.

It’s all dependent on how connected you are.
I have an MBA, and have been turned down twice for a PM analyst role. The positions were filled by kids of Relationship Managers.

Sounds like you didn’t have good negotiating skill and the one paid 10 grand more did. You have to sell yourself not let your degree speak for you.

Wow looks like this thread is filled with college dropouts and flunkies.

Anyways, unfortunately at most companies these days the best time to get the best compensation is when you first get hired. Every year after you're going to get a very minimum raise.

Master's in what? Key question. TV/VCR repair? Gender studies?

Your fault for not utilizing it properly… your situation would likely be in the same situation at every other bank.

Be your own best advocate in your role (or to get the role you want) within any company setting as you would do in life. Do this with ethics and integrity at the forefront. Get to know the right people that will help you grow. Kiss some @55 when you need to get your way. This is business, nobody else is looking out for you. Your results speak much louder than your degree. It’s really not that hard.

I love how people with a Masters Degree think that the degree makes them worth more than people who have experience doing the work and not just learning about it.

Apparently you got a masters degree in something that doesn't matter

Yep. Ability to stick your head up the boss' backside and stick your tongue out is way way way more important than any qualifications, education, employment history, or qualifications. Middle management and scrum masters are experts in this trick.
