5:30 AM — The rooster crows. Not because it's dawn, but because the neighbor fired up his F-350 and rattled every window within three counties.

I roll out of bed, pull on my boots that have seen more cattle than some ranches, and checks the weather.

"Well, it's only 92 degrees this morning. Nice and cool."

6:00 AM — Coffee is brewed strong enough to restart a dead pickup. Breakfast consists of eggs, bacon, texas toast and a discussion about whether the highway construction will ever be finished.
The answer is no.

6:45 AM — Time to get the kids ready for school.
One kid is wearing cowboy boots, another is wearing football cleats, and the youngest somehow has a lizard in their lunchbox.

7:10 AM — Everyone piles into a truck large enough to invade a small nation.
I remind everyone to buckle up. Mom reminds everyone again.
Grandpa, riding shotg-n for no apparent reason, reminds everyone a third time and then tells a story about gas being 89 cents a gallon in 1978.

7:25 AM — School drop-off.
The line contains:

  • 40 pickup trucks
  • 10 SUVs
  • 8 steers
  • One horse trailer for reasons nobody questions
  • A guy towing a bass boat on a Tuesday

7:45 AM — I head to work.
Traffic is moving at a respectable 78 mph.
Someone passes me doing 95.
Someone else passes THAT guy doing 110.
A construction sign says "Road Work Ahead."
The same sign has been there since the Obama administration.

8:00 AM — Arrives at work.
Coworker asks, "Hot enough for ya?"
This question will be asked approximately 17 times before lunch.

The Texas workday has officially begun.

"this is not acceptable and not meeting core hours requirement"

Please provide the link on the T intranet that details the core hours . . . or GFYS.

“Why are kids chauffeured to and from school these days? I rode the bus to school and my 2 children did as well. Is it a snowflake thing?”

This is a great question!

@b3 this is not acceptable and not meeting core hours requirement. Stop trying to make your life easier at the expense of the business.

I leave the house at 5:45. My husband’s job luckily has flexibility so he takes care of the kids getting them to school. If we didn’t have that I would not work here.

“This company doesn’t give a flying fuhck about you or your kids.”

This isn’t true at all. But why wouldn’t your kids take the bus to school?

Commute from McKinney, straight shot on 75. I go to gym at 6:00-7:30 3 days a week take shower drive from gym to downtown around 8:30. Skate around 4:00Pm, home around 5:30.

Waste 2 hours of my life everyday driving to take a meeting I can do virtually. At the end of the day I have 3 hours of free time before I am too tired to do anything else, no kids no gf or family.
