My wife got laid off last month after eight years, we’ve got three kids, and if EM hits me with a layoff too, we’re done. I just want to keep my head down, work, and support my family but that seems impossible right now.

@bk It’s just one troll. Pretty sure he’s not Indian. His go-to issue is DEI. Also dabbles in culture-jamming. His posts usually get taken down fairly quickly.
He began showing up a year or two ago shortly after he was terminated. Apparently, he was triggered by a passing mention of Pride Month in an email. Most other functional adults just deleted the email and went on with their lives.
@c1 Us grown-ups call them trolls guy.
There is a massive movement on X about H1Bs and offshoring. They are uncovering visa fraud , visa violations, and naming names. It will be interesting to see where this goes.
We can all have our differences but it's really sad seeing posts that truly lack empathy, even to some strangers on the internet. Karma will eventually ripe sooner or later, India folks should know about this.
@bk
I think most of the people commenting here are on expat roles are from India. I met one on campus in June, she was nice, but within two minutes of chatting she started the same rant, BTC is the future…….
I have no hate for anyone, but the problem with BTC is-
- Cheap Labour arbitrage leverage by top Ups to get more RSUs and pump their CLs
- Majority of BTC folks are incompetent with our company or moreover western work culture
- Some of them are nice, hardworking but majority of them are liers, fake credentials, always try to steal your work, present fake numbers , and not to mention, endless mistakes.
- Again, majority of them have no Empathy. That’s still one of our core value , care for each others, but they don’t.
The growing hate within the org. worries me. To keep things under control and simple, there should be a cap on GCC roles, That way, people here will have some sense of security.
@bk ever heard of VPNs and overseas Indian employees? You make it sound like a great firewall of China
@bj do you even know that people in India can’t post on this site? This is just some random hate spreading trolls.
@b8 it's because of people like you commenting on here that India is becoming increasingly hated worldwide as a nation of parasitic cheap labour
@aa What are you, a sociopath?
This person has four people depending on them, and they posted concerns about layoffs at their company on a layoff website. I fail to see the issue here….
This normalization of cruelty is both surprising and concerning.
I’ve seen tough situations turn out better than expected. A colleague of mine was laid off during the big 2020–2021 cuts at Exxon, and on that same day his wife—also at Exxon—was let go too. It felt like a disaster for their family. But in the end, one transitioned into a different industry with higher income, and the other joined another oil & gas company that truly valued their skills. Today, they’re both in a stronger place than before. What seemed like the worst day ended up being a turning point. Stay hopeful—setbacks can open new doors.
@aw thats not nice!
It will get worse in 2026…expect Warp Speed 2…Europe maybe a no go zone…that’s why India is so attractive…
Really…Really enjoy what you got…it’s going to get hard core soon. FAFO
Fu-k you BTC and the high horse you rode in on
Think your wife needs to really start looking for another opportunity.
Move to Bangalore. Plenty of jobs there! https://www.linkedin.com/company/exxonmobil-india-careers/
I’m so sorry for the stress you’re going through, OP. Praying things improve for you & your family
In all sincerity and speaking from personal experience, if your goal is to keep your head down and work hard … while honorable, respectful, decent and all those things…. EM is not the place for you. Visibility, optics, being in the right circles, etc. matter more than actual results themselves. Is a brutal truth and that reality is only worsening with every passing year. Prioritize your values and what’s important to you, there are options. Can be a hard pill to swallow, but may be happier elsewhere in the long run.
@OP what do you mean you’re done? Are you so far up to your neck in debt that you can’t survive a year out of work? Then you’ve been doing it wrong, living beyond your means, you need start today to rein that in regardless of your job situation.
Stay strong.
You all don’t deserve these jobs.
BTC is the future, wait and watch we will have CEO, SVPs, VPs from BTC.. you will cry
First of all, I’m sorry that you’re going through this.
The only advice I can give you is to never stop looking for your next job, always have (at least) one year of salary in savings, minimize your debt, maintain side-hustles (sc--w company policy on this one, do you), and never, ever, assume that you have any kind of job security from any employer.
Good luck to you and your family.
Never put all your eggs in one basket. Always have a backup plan
