With all of the recent incidents, she's been awfully quiet

@b5+1k0kxhafd - true.
HSE, while is a specific function with individuals with specific skills, certifications, professional experiences and educational requirements, Is often viewed as a function that is a "career development opportunity" for those in the HiPot or favored club. Anyone in that class of favorites would be thrown into HSE for a short period of time and checks the box. Thus, in turn, this ki-ls the motivation for those who have spent a large amount of years in the HSE function....no wonder qualified, competent HSE professionals are headed out the door as the HSE performance quickly follows.
@b8 It kind of sounds like our Big Beautiful government right now, huh? Friends of the rich and powerful getting promoted to the most important positions without any claim to the positions or qualifications for it. And no, this isn't TDS, this is just how it works. Corporations not working for the people, but for the powerful. Just like our government.
@C2, Sure I totally understand. But we are not talking about drilling a well. We are talking about health, safety, and environmental concerns. This company does more than drill wells, if you haven't noticed. I am an HSE with 25 years experience in the oil industry, 20 years with Chevron and 15 in D&C/Wells. We could benefit from experienced leadership persons in roles where they actually know what they are doing, in all functions. Nothing cute about it; but I guess your ego as an Engineer is more important then qualifications, logic or reason.
Let’s be honest, she was never really too involved before all this. Hopefully they will put an actual HSE person in charge next time…but doubt it.
@OP Helpless Selfish Executive?
@c2 we have some great folks in Wells, and not a one of them would be on a website bashing HSE or any other function or member of their team unprovoked. Get a life, 1982 called and would like that antiquated attitude back.
It's cute that you view a degree in public health as more relevant to drilling a well safely than a degree (and experience) as a petroleum engineer.
She is not very good. Her leadership and leadership team is garbage.
@b8 your question was likely hypothetical. BUT, they do that bc they have nowhere to put some leaders so they move them around every few years so they don’t have to take accountability or feel the consequences for the ridiculous decisions they’ve made.
Why bother, it’s clear it is no longer a priority.
Funny that those of us with specialized training and specific degrees having to do with safety, health or environmental management can’t seem to get placed into like positions at Chevron. What does that mean?
I know HES isn’t exactly a popular team. However, do you guys ever think about the fact that we have many professionals among the ranks who are certified industrial hygienist, certified safety professionals, have a bachelor’s in occupational safety & health, and also have masters degree in public health; yet we promote people Who have no recognized safety education, certifications or tenure to the ranks of HES VP for the entire corporation. We put petroleum engineers and chemical engineers in charge of HES. Once again, real HSE leadership seem to be overlooked in favor of others.
Good observation. As you never really heard about root causes and resolutions to major incidents, maybe cold turkey is the new strategy.
Funny you mention that…. She’s been very quiet.
