Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

below expected impact

does it mean layoff? if someone gets a ‘below expected impact’ rating, does taking FMLA or PTO offer any temporary protection, or could HR still move forward with actions while the person is on leave?”

@1kh “ I don’t worry about being laid off. It would just mean my side gig becomes my main gig.” THIS!

@1fb Didn’t prevent layoffs, did it? Might not have caused them, but didn’t prevent them. AI might not cause layoffs, but do you really think there won’t be more layoffs? And do you really think getting your next job will be easy?

Don't take my advice. Don't learn a trade skill or work a side gig. I’m still at F5 and making a lot more money on the side. I don’t worry about being laid off. It would just mean my side gig becomes my main gig.

@1f7 they said that about Agile too. That fizzled

@m6 If you’re not already doing a side gig using trade skills, you’re behind the times. Computer skills will only last another 2-3 years, at any company. It’s all AI after that. Better prepare and start working whatever trade jobs you can get now on the side. You can thank me later.

@m6 it’s ECONOMY that dictates what people would do. No demand for certain skills? Sorry, your title and experience doesn’t matter.

@b2 And this approach would mean that anybody that is involved in test/verification/valiadation of the software will be eliminated as the customers will be taking over that responsibility.

@b2 Does that mean then that Senior Principal Software Engineers will have to take up nightly cleaning of the restrooms, vacuuming the floors of the building, and cleaning up the kitchen?

@b7 I bet they must be Indian origin managers. They are the worst of all. HR’s have no control over. F5 needs to get rid of Indian management.Period.

@OP The whole modern corporate workplace industry is too stressful for the work one has to do, and they pay you just enough to keep you happy in your job. Most workplaces expect employees to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks at once and dealing with backstabbing coworkers. PIPs are used by HR and management to micromanage and push you out of the company. Modern workplaces also expect everyone to align with a ridiculous company culture and maintain high energy at all times. It’s best to start your own business or seek guidance on how to do so.

@OP Rather work for yourself (the sooner the better) then have somebody determine if you're good enough for a role you're more then qualified for. Wake up!

@OP Measuring “impact”? Total disaster of an idea. In a place where the priorities change faster than a reality-TV plot twist, it’s basically useless. And honestly, with the way this company handles layoffs, who’s even thinking about what happens in 2–3 months? An IC’s planning horizon is now about a week, maybe less if the vibes are bad. So why bother with anything long-term? Just run everything like Toyota’s JIT system: no inventory, no plans, no worries. Beautiful. Fabulous. Truly efficient. Let execs take care about "plans". It's their $$$$$ job.

@b2 so FLD is being ranked LOW?

@b3 When I was at F5 I had a manager formerly from Microsoft that would change what my goals were mid quarter and then rank me low for not having achieved them. HR was of no help.

@b2 How do you know that the feedback shared is genuine ? the manager could hold back grudge on you for disagreement. Not for being a Yes boss types. don't just assume things .You must be from HR department but you know S**t

It means you are toast. We are ranking roles as those that have an immediate impact down to those that we will not even know they are gone as the benefits of those roles are minimum and can be assumed by another team member. All savings and no cost as the team member picking up the added work will not see their compensation increased. Bit of advise, start applying for jobs outside of F5 NOW........

@OP where did these words come from? "below expected impact". They are new to me

@OP if they want to get rid of you, there is nothing you can do. they just need to craft the situation to their advantage.
