Surviving without burning out

I used to push myself to know everything and ended up on the edge of burnout. Now that I dial it back, things feel way more manageable. It seems like pretending not to know too much while staying polite keeps the workload under control.

To anyone thinking of taking medical leaves and extending them and also just coasting on the job: the offshore is getting a lot of talent even from the US to abroad. Always take care of yourself first, but the temptation of any company to replace you for cheaper will always win.

No job is worth your mental health, just have this in mind when you make a decision.

@s7 yes, this happened to me. As long as you are within the 12 weeks of FMLA protections you’re okay. After that, they can terminate while still on STD. STD can go as long as 26 weeks and then LTD (up to 30 months, I think) would be the next steps. If you start the claim before your termination, you can still pursue the full STD and LTD.

@b7 did this happen to you? I’m curious because I’ve been considering FMLA/STD for burnout/stress along with some physical -related chronic illness and my doctor is willing to sign the paperwork but I’m afraid I’ll be on some list

@be I’ve been advised by attorney not to speak publicly on details until appeals and legal actions are settled. I’m not taking it without a fight though, that’s for sure.

Yeah I’m sure in the 1990s or early 2000’s there was a reason to invest yourself in your job. Proper salary and prospects for growth, but at this point those days are over.

Company loyalty shouldn’t be a thing as these companies do not doubt they can replace you. Actually, they WANT to replace you.

Protect yourself at all costs. They will fire you while out on disability for the very stress they created. Cigna can suc my @$$.
