Took a buyout before an LR or PIP would have found me three years ago. Found a new opportunity (contacted by a recruiter!) and have been VERY happy to be out of there.

I became a mod of this site after I was laid off in 2019. I keep a spreadsheet of IP addresses vs posts so I can keep of track of things. Sometimes I know the poster is talking about my ex-team or a team where my close buddies work on. Life.

@OP some of my friends over 55+ end up in the school, somehow government pays for tuition and also extend their unemployment benefits and then after they graduate after one year, they just apply for social security or starting take out from their IRA distribution. it is a free giveaway back then , some go back to their master degree in whatever, depend on which state you live in. Majority of folks never find any job.. if over 55+ , after Cisco.. some start a fake consulting business, of course did not fan well.. some start a garage business to start sell matress on the internet or amazon.
very few made to a real company.. there are few, however, all depends on who you know..
I forgot few folks, become a realty selling house in central California.. and orange county..

There is no doubt Cisco has its reputation and I see it on full display everyday except I cannot be as pessimistic as others. I get recruitment emails from the biggest tech companies and vendors for my work experience on a regular basis. I’m still in the abusive relationship, and Cisco always tells me, baby, I can change!

Having Cisco on your resume is a death knell for your career. If you are at an early stage in your career, PLEASE do not stay longer than 2 years.
It's who you know. Ex Cisco guy with a criminal record got hired at a competitor. Then another one only bc he's buddies with the CEOs.
Far away from drama and politics where real work is valued and people actually work instead of talking all day on Webex and pretending to be productive . Working at Disco is a chess game , job depends on who the manager is not on caliber of a person . Glad I got out the s—-t while I still could.
I suspect most of these responses are not helpful.
I applied to the job openings listed at major companies and indeed.com. I got a couple of initial interviews but little traction. I noticed some jobs at some big companies that never got filled even though I was more than qualified and they had a ton of other applications.
A better strategy is to use your network and find job openings from people you know. Of course, many friends indicated their company and group were not hiring at the moment.
I am now happy consulting for a friend's start up that requires a lot of knowledge but pays a very small fraction of my cisco compensation.
All depends on your talent. Good talent will always find a job !! The ones with grit and don’t give up easily.
Managers who are weak in technology will use their connections and get in somewhere or other. No connections, you will be on the sidelines for many months.
Many are suffering due to outsourcing of millions of job to other countries. No growth due to no hiring in the USA. This leads to dead end for careers of many employees.
@cd i liked it when he touched me and gave me a happy ending. i have visited many times since. He did QA at Cisco and I worked with him closely back then.

The true answer is...Cisco.
First, they haunt LinkedIn for about a year posting nonsensical ar-e-kissing about the "leadership" at Crisco. Change their profile to "Synergy Expert" or "Change Agent" or some other meaningless drivel.
they go to a Cisco Partner and work for peanuts for a year or two.
Then, they're back at Cisco for round 2 (or 3 or 4)
If you can exit corporate, any type of corporate. Go supplement your expenses by doing gig work…

Many large tech companies are on a hiring freeze. The job opportunities exist primarily with small and medium sized companies. Those companies don’t want to hire former Cisco employees. The perception is that Cisco is structured, comfortable, and neither fast-paced nor dynamic. You are given everything and have to simply plug in and execute. See, we’re in growth mode and need people who are self-directed. Also, depending on what technology you supported, it’s perceived as “commoditized” or “not essential”.
Having Cisco on your resume is strikes one, two, and three. God help you if you supported Webex.
Source where do people land? Well, a lot of them are STILL looking for jobs.
Source: I supported Webex and have been told a lot of this to my face by several hiring managers. At least they’re honest.

Do shift on Uber and Lyft to support expenses. Do side gig trading stock options and get really good, and make more than Cisco salary. Not worth working with CISCO TOXIC CULTURE. Mental health is very important.
I feel bad for people who got LR'd and hope things work out for them, but Cisco's reputation in the industry is not good and that is going to weigh on job search efforts.
I suspect a lot of folks just end up at another dinosaur like IBM because it is as close to their previous experience and expectations are low. Not surprisingly, a fair number of people I have spoken with in SBG have some IBM on their resumes.
It takes about 6-8 weeks after you're out of an abusive relationship before you realize how but it was. Then you're in a better place, that's where most of us who left are now.

doordash. true story, a former co-worker delivered a doordash order to my house. he got impacted about 4 years ago. it was awkward, but it's life.
Costco, Home Depot and more recently Ace Hardware.
For many finding work somewhere else is like going in vacation not much less money but much less work. So the new gig usually thinks they have you overloaded but in reality being used with the Cisco abuse you will do that work for the new employer on the side :-)
