Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

I won't mind being laid off

The whole industry is facing rough times, so layoffs are going to be a given for a while. At this point, I’d welcome the severance and use it as a chance to switch into something with at least somewhat better prospects over the next several years. Staying put is like waiting for the floor to drop out anyway.

Get your next job before you leave the one you have.

@b4 lol for how long? Did you not see the town hall? These layoffs aren’t going to end. They say the end of 2027 but let’s face it. All of us will slowly be phased out up until 2030. ‘What’s the incentive’ someone asked. The answer he got you all heard. Your incentive is to keep your job and stfu. Last part wasn’t directly said but you could see it written all over RL’s face.

I can see it if you want to change industries, but if you want to stay in oil and gas a layoff might curtail that for years to come. There are very few oil and gas jobs out there as well as the same in other industries. If you get out and try to get back in a few years down the road your skill set is most likely going to be out of date. I am not a big backer of AI, OSDU, and AWS but it looks like those are here to stay. The next few years will see how we handle data and computing become totally different than today. If we keep our oil and gas jobs then one better be ready to learn a whole different way of doing their job.

Why not just EOI if that's what you want

You must be a supply chain or IT person. Most of us are ride or die O&G and COP is one of the best options in Houston.
