Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Any good healthcare employers out there?

I’m young in my career and all three MCO’s I have worked at have been hellish, with Anthem being the worst by far. Wondering if folks have actually encountered a decent healthcare company to work at? Considering changing industries altogether because of how bad these places are.

(As an aside, Gail and team couldn’t identify true talent if it hit them in the face.)

This industry can only survive by using cheap labor and technology. It's not an industry that one would want to stay in. Try a healthTech startup

The job market is very hard right now, so don't jump until yo have a new job. It will take awhile, just keep applying.

@dw You lost me at ‘DEI hires’. Word selection felt like a shortcut, not a point ….

@dw - the diversity needed is more Americans, especially in IT. The importing of labor from other countries has handicapped the company.

Short answer - No. Better off getting out of the industry now as opposed to being shown the door because it's only going to get worse.

@b3

Completely agree. She created a den of pit vipers by design. Instead after sprinkling outside talent into the organization she "suggested" that leaders only hire from the outside and/or make DEI hires. Did the company need some diversity, absolutely. Do you try to change that in a three year period, not at the expense of the organization. This company fate was sealed when they could not convince KG to be CEO.

For what it is worth, FN may be the worst senior leader I saw during my 35 year career and giving her more responsibility is unconscionable.

You are young and said you worked for several. I would change industries. Frankly I don't see this form of healthcare surviving. People can argue that - look for something away from "healthcare" Good Luck

Look for smaller, established (not startup) regional plans that have good employee reviews. I worked for one in my early years and left for Elevance, thinking I made it to the big time. I had issues with that first company, sure, but I definitely didn't feel nauseous every Monday morning.

I agree with b3. Run while you can. The industry as a whole is a mess, so look for work in another sector.

If Amazon needs a people leader every few workers, they will need a leader driver drawing on PPTX every 5 trucks.

This was a good company many MANY years ago - - but not since the Gail years - - she has promoted secrecy, no trust, kudos to herself, more layoffs in our history - - just not the place it used to be. I only stayed because I have been here a while - but I would never recommend this company to anybody I liked. Get out while you are young and still have choices.
