Photonic crystal endless ....look it up
AT&T has no fiber in front of my house and I have 1 bar signal on my phone. Please help.
@c4 Years ago multi mode fiber was replaced with single mode fiber (thinner inner core) to enable deployment of the SONET network at higher speeds. SONET is going the way of the dodo, so accordingly, need a next level fiber technology.
We make communication go.
"We're a fiber-first company," AT&T CEO John Stankey said today
I thought we were a layoff first company
What does better fiber mean and what level of improvement would be made? Also what is a “bit” more money? If it was the fiber why can you different tier speeds from your provider without replacing the existing fiber?
There are new fibers that are better, but ATT is too cheap to get them and zero research development. We do need a Nobel prize in wireless but a bit more money on fiber tech.
@b3 That sounds exactly like something Legg could pull off.
It would take a Nobel peace prize level discovery in wireless transmission before a wireless product is going to be able to replace fiber as an end game strategy. A run of the mill residential fiber connection is a gig up and down. A fantastic AT&T air connection is a third of that just on the downstream. Though is also still room for improvement in both technologies, in a decade or two you’ll see over 10 gigs over fiber being rather ubiquitous. I’m skeptical of wireless speeds achieving that in that time frame.
