Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Anyone else realize that, after their layoff

They fu--ing hated their job? I've been reckoning with it like every day since. This was my first position out of college, and I just feel more and more apathetic about everything this company did.

Verizon does the basics well for employees. Where it’s completely sc--wed up is the culture…poor leadership obsessed with virtue signalling and looking at everything with rose-tinted spectacles. A leadership style akin to the USSR

@ba It depends on where you are. I was threatened with weekend work every month. I think it's what contributed directly to my apathy.

People hate jobs in general, what you see while working for VZ you will see elsewhere as well (or mostly). I think VZ is a good employer, good wages for what employees produce, good life-work balance with ridiculously generous vacations and Personal time. The only thing is if you can just ignore some politics.

@b2 agreed. plus the reckless acquisitions strategy that could field a college semester’s worth of case studies of what not to do. but i digress. too many leaders who were made for running social media accounts and not to lead companies/people. most companies don’t survive these types of mistakes for long durations - you’ll end up somewhere better OP.

Life happens. Verizon was a solid company to work for. However, it failed to evolve due to bad leadership, poor governance, and keeping a leadership team who do not have the best interest for the company. They became very comfortable with the big pay check. The Board of Directors who were supposed to oversee the strategy also got comfortable just getting fees. The bright side for you is, you have a long way to go in your career. Just take the lesson and move forward.

You've got a long way to go my friend. Life is not easy and you're going to have to take the good with the bad from any employer. That certainly includes Verizon.

You can't take Mommie & Daddy to work with you every day to help so you're going to have to toughen up.

This is my 40th year working in Telecom and it's not for faint of heart. If it's too much for you then start looking elsewhere but know that everything starts with your own attitudes in life. You can't afford to be apathetic at such a young age and hope to amount to anything career wise.

Good luck but toughen up!

Only when you take the cover from a boiling pot do you realize how clear the water is... Most people dislike their jobs, it makes sense, you are paid to be there. I'd always prefer a sandy beach to an office cubicle too. When things are a 'bad fit', a company will always drop an employee. When the company is a 'bad fit', good employees will usually suffer through it. Misplaced loyalty, and other reasons.

Although young, you should already know what kind of job you'd WANT to be doing. I can't do that for you from here.
