Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Immeasurable Damage

Monday 9th, 8:00 AM, I am sitting at my desk, I am supposed to be in one of our “important” meetings.

The truth is, I just don’t f**kin’ care anymore.
I am void, gutted, ataractic.

Previous employers had managed to insult me, exploit me, humiliate me, offend me… But what Chevron is doing to all of us is much worse. Chevron has dehumanized us.
We are supposed to smile, wear our fancy button-up shirts, repeat mindlessly $hite like “I will circle back tomorrow” or “fit-for-purpose workflows”, be professional and keep pushing…. While being “selected”, as if we were beasts that can either be sent to the butcher, to the fields, or to the milk farms.

I just want this torture to be done, once for good. The damage that this farce has caused to my mental health is immeasurable.

Please accept my apologies for this rant. I wish good luck to all, in one way or the other.

@dd ha, the Ramsey plan. Last step: Build wealth and GIVE: Once debt-free and financially secure, focus on growing wealth and being GENEROUS.

Chevron is not on the Ramsey plan, that’s why we never prosper, companies take advantage of us.

@ck that's unfortunate but that's not Chevron's fault. Get on the Ramsey plan and clean up your financial life

They pay us SO much money for ultimately SO little stress. It's really unbelievable that people complain this much.

I hear you.

I was supposed to be in a “realignment huddle.” But there’s nothing to align. I disconnected three months ago.
You’re right..this isn’t work anymore. It’s burnout on purpose.
First, they withhold information. You’re expected to complete tasks no one assigns. They said you “should’ve known,” then correct you for following old guidance they never updated. It’s BS.
Feedback that contradicts itself. Meetings where you’re asked questions about meetings you were never invited to.
It feels like they’re punishing us . Shifting deadlines. Just silence from the bosses. Tasks reassigned without notice, then handed back with corrections for errors you didn’t make. Always behind schedule and always under review.

And then, one day, they’ll probably come for you. It’ll be quiet—too quiet. Everyone else seems to know. You hear the boots. Heavy. Fast. Then a guard in plain black shows up at your desk.
He doesn’t speak. He grabs you by the collar, one arm to your desk, the other sweeping your laptop into a sealed crate. You protest—yelling about the policy, process, HR—but he’s already dragging you backward through the hall while your teammates avoid eye contact. He’s known as the torture guy for a reason.

You are gone before the 9:00 meeting starts.
Your calendar is cleared.
Your name disappears from Teams.

By lunch, they’ve posted a job opening for your role.
By Friday, no one remembers you worked here.

@OP our office has “stay determined” in big black font on all the hallway monitors. I wanted to rip them off the wall.

@ae, Sure it can, and it's not for you to decide what can or cannot be done. Start your own company. And just a tip, don't hire the entitled types that CVX has recently.

I just can’t comprehend what the management is thinking: a layoff process can’t be lasting this long, it creates all kinds of problems like safety, mental health, and productivity.

Can we just all agree that layoffs are stressful for everyone no matter their financial situation and that everyone's mental health is being affected without belittling someone for voicing their difficulties? Gosh! It's like we have people at Chevron that relish in other people's misery and try to make it worse rather than being an empathetic human being. Seriously, shame on those that behave that way.

I was thinking the same thing as a5+1. That’s a lot of drama. Great creative writing skills. Get over it. Get back to work. They’re still paying you.

Stop being a crybaby. What keeps you and a lot of people there is the grossly inflated salaries.

You and many others that are upset is due to the face that no one is going to come close to your pay. The gravy train is over!

Not everyone is cut out for corporate life. The higher you go, the nastier the politics. Keep the focus on what is important. Layoffs is a business tool that will always be needed as the business shifts. One reason to keep seeking promotions is that one day you will control a process like this and you will have learned and done it better.

Please seek help from a professional. I know that sounds cliche but the benefits are beyond measure. Talking to my therapist throughout this ordeal has helped me remain levelheaded and positive.

You deserve peace and happiness.
