Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Unusual RIF

Are the RIFs really expected to be worse than usual? There’s always some level of reduction in force, but a lot of what’s being said doesn’t seem grounded in anything concrete. It’s hard to imagine them cutting a third of OI or Health with so many active projects underway. I also haven’t heard anything from our controller or VP that would suggest cuts on that scale, nothing. I wonder if they pull names out of a hat…

Expect to see layoffs in Rx, Tech, OI, AHNI.

@b1 I suspect 30% YOY is the reality. I suspect that the grand total this time around isn't going to overwhelming, but there are certainly teams/pockets that are likely to get hit hard.

@b6 This is correct. Like clockwork.

@az Thousands have been cut every quarter for years. Why would they do less this quarter?

@b1 you are naive if you think your job can't be offshored

My gut would say it’ll get us to about 30% reduction overall since last year at this time, not another 30%. It’s not far off, my area which wasn’t very small and isn’t any sort of tech/area that can be offshored has been knocked roughly 30% since last May.

@OP They aren't cutting 1/3 of PI in a single RIF. that would be thousands and thousands of people. Over time sure, but in a day. Nope.
