Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Delayering

The upcoming restructuring focuses on removing middle management. If the VP layer is cut while the EVP and Senior Directors stay, the total number of Directors will be reduced to flatten the hierarchy.

The VP layers wont be cut. They are needed to shield SVP's. and SVP's needed to shield EVP's.

@a9 Not completely true. There are VP, senior directors, directors and managers who are technically solid and contribute along with individual contributors

There are some useless people at all layers and playing bureaucracy and don’t collaborate enough. Also, teams impacted by earlier layoff end up joining other organizations and unfortunately these smart folks who are left out have to deal with an unimaginable cr-p of bureaucracy all the way from SVP, VP level as they feel their existing teams are better compared to teams that got impacted. Also, there is a level of regional demographic gangs where they will never let others excel.

I strongly feel to dust off the bureaucratic SVP, VP and bet things will be aligned and oracle will be in much profitable stage as an innovating company..

No doubt, Oracle is bloated. The layers middle management where no real work is done are all over the place.

De-layering, if it really happens will expose a lot of other faults. This will lead to more restructuring and thinning of the work force. Big companies like Oracle that have grow quickly have lots of unproductive pockets that need to be rooted out. If your group turns out the TPS report you are probably toast.

This will be a good move. Way too much fat at the top. There are numerous executives, VPs, site directors, directors who frankly do nothing. They "manage" 1-2 and won't have any impact if removed. I suspect there will be an improvement in morale and productivity of those underneath. Oracle is top heavy and cuts should be focused at highest levels and not at IC level.
