Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Department of Education now is declaring most HEALTHCARE majors as "not professional degrees?"

What’s going to happen to Optum in the long run?

@OP The bigger question is : if an RN is no longer a professional or does that include NP’s . RN’s have some autonomy due to their licensure as professionals. They do not require direct supervision by a doctor. Just another RN . So does that mean UR nurses can no longer approve care with criteria. Just like an LVN has to escalate everyone for Md review , does the RN now have to do the same. No independent judgement. How about nurses in HC, home health etc.

This question is completely irrelevant. The department of education classified this for loan purposes. Stop using this thread to ask ridiculous questions that don't pertain to lay offs.

Its ok you can just switch to theology, thats still considered a professional degree...What a clown-world we live in. I think after you have completed a specific number of hours as a nurse you should automatically be given a title of doctor.

@bc Oh, you mean after he claimed it was a hoax, and fake news? He then suggested perhaps injecting bleach or light into our bodies to ki-l the virus... Brilliant leadership...

@ @az+1kak9x6f3 "Just let us die last term". How quickly the ignorant liberal (sorry in advance for the redundant terms) forgets the past including Operation Warp Speed.

this is just going to make it easier to give these jobs to underqualified foreign workers. currently i believe they have some insane pipeline set up where they bring someone over and fast track them through a diploma mill, in the future they won't even need that just come on over and live 30 people to one house. meanwhile american nurses can live on the street for all they care

@ab How would limiting access to loans for healthcare degrees not have an impact? It may benefit existing healthcare professionals in the near term, but impacts the pipeline of candidates for companies to pick from. I guess they can try to get more people to come to the US to fill the jobs since the US is turning their back on their own professionals.

This has more to do with federal graduate student loans than anything else. It will impact accessibility to student loans therefore, impacting healthcare jobs pipeline.

Nothing. They will continue business as usual. Typical corporate bs. Up and down…more important question is what will happen to thousands of people who will likely be laid off.
