Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

Is 2026 March round finished?

We are all sad to see our brilliant coworkers leave this week in the US and around the globe. Is this round finished? If so, when will be the next round? We all need to get prepared for the next impact now.

@OP "Sorry for you loss. But, Am I next?"

You must be a middle manager.

@11g thanks for sharing the timeline! So shall we interpret it as the next round in May is mainly for directors and managers, not for ICs?

@x9 The current process is a common playbook when a company acquires another company. Most executive leadership roles are purged. Then each org(team) is usually required to cut 20% of their staff. Sometimes the manager does it, sometimes HR makes the call based on feedback. Also, any “troublesome” employees are also dismissed. You ever filed a complaint against a manager or a policy…you’re now on the chopping block. Finally, the reorganization happens. Managers that had 5 members and now only have 2…are useless. Many unqualified, unskilled, overpaid managers hiding behind their staff. Directors and managers that were kept for structural purposes will also be cut after reorganization is complete. All of these cuts look like they will occur in May.

@fm That makes sense. May will purge the placeholder and transitional leadership, after the reorganization due at the end of April.

@dt Folks from Blind said the next round is about to happen in May. I am unsure whether it is for real. August/September might be more reasonable since it's towards the end of the 27 dev calendar.

@ay You can download the spreadsheets from each state's website. The California one is the only one that was updated today and did not have anything specific to Ansys. I do not believe Ansys exists anymore in the United States, but it may have entities by that name in other countries.

@ar did you check ansys as well? Know it’s the same but they could report it differently

The California employment website is showing a notice date of March 23, and an effective date of May 26 with 55 employees affected. This means this round is done for California, and probably the US. Other states have different minimum reporting requirements that may not have been triggered. Pennsylvania and Texas are not showing lay offs for Synopsys yet, but the number affected may be either too low, or the report has not been updated.

My understanding is remote and HQ employees where 3/24 - Pune is 3/25 and the EU will be as the laws allow.
