Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Blame the government along with ExxonMobil

Let’s not let the government off the hook as they are enabling ExxonMobil and others. They had no problem letting blue collar jobs off shore for cheap products that are “reduced carbon emission” which is a joke in itself. And then letting wages be undercut by illegals given free access across the border.

Now high paying high skill jobs are being worked remote along with rotating “temporary” jobs under L1 visa which are in fact a permanent displacement of a full time person.

The government not only doesn’t care but don’t understand the magnitude and impact of all this and without a drastic shift in policy, it’s going to be very hard to put the genie sick in the bottle.

@hx People commenting here do know how the system works. You just disagree with their stance. The government and universities have been in bed together for some time. Foreign students and counties who in large part fund these persons conspire against tax paying American’s that suffer from their policies. These policies are embedded in part and enabled by no cost controls at universities. Yes. Foreign students and out of state students that pay full rides that subsidize their budgets. But that doesn’t make it right.

@hf Didn’t read past the first line, and I don’t need to.

Horrendous grammar, lack of thesis, abuse of punctuation, ad hominem, the list goes on for a long while.

You have again demonstrated that you have no clue how a university functions.

Ad hominem = “to the man.” It’s a rhetorical tactic (and logical fallacy) that a person often resorts to after losing a debate on the merits.

@dw Do you even know what the word “subsidized” means?

If so, you’d know that it’s American students, not foreign ones, who are receiving the “subsidies” in the form of scholarships and financial aid.

Foreign students coming to the U.S. are in a completely different category. They can’t even apply for any form of financial aid or most scholarships. Again, you have no idea how a university functions.

@dw It’s not clear what your point even is. The best I’m able to do from reading your comments is that you oppose immigration and haven’t attended a university.

Can you maybe find another part of the internet to air your cultural grievances? There are plenty of others forums to do that, and your pathological fixation on cultural issues adds nothing to discussion of layoffs here.

@cz You’re making the point. The US government allows foreign students to apply and attend US colleges to subsidize at a full tuition ride often paid by the country of origin with a promise to return and work there for several years.

And US colleges are funded in part by taxpayers whether private or public. Just look at the ongoing battle with Harvard and others.

@d3 Not really, I just know how a university works because I’ve attended one.

@cj Taxpayer dollars don’t support foreign students. They actually pay much higher fees, and they do so entirely out of pocket. It’s a major source of income for universities.

Clearly you’ve never attended a college because you haven’t a clue how one actually operates.

The economy and job market were both better at this time last year. Groceries were also cheaper. Just putting that out there.

@ay Is it governments job to use taxpayer funds to support universities that train foreign workers which are paid a full ride by their sponsor country and then return home with a western education to displace American jobs! US Government is not a benign participant and if fact infringe on free markets.

Fun fact.

It’s not the government’s job to run ExxonMobil which is a private entity.

Welcome to America.
