Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Ever feel like you're trapped in career purgatory?

Too "experienced" for most employers to consider hiring, but years away from retirement. Starting over isn't an option with my savings, so I'm just riding it out, praying I survive the next round of cuts. Nobody tells you how demoralizing it is to hit this point in your career.

Don't sell yourself short. Whatever opportunity is there you have a choice. Make it the best job ever or the worst.

"too experienced" is code for overpaid. Welcome to the real world.

@dh, you ARE your own greatest resource. Just make sure that someone ELSE is not or others are not YOUR only resource and you'll be fine. If not, you may want to find something you're good at and get a job. Too many of you are used to getting a paycheck for contributing very little. It's obvious.

Chevron will be a monument to quiet quitting that companies will use as an example of what not to do for years to come.

Too many ppl at CVX that don’t do anything. Cuts could’ve easily been 50%

Now those who are always complaining are scared and want to stay because they have realized that no one is going to pay what they earn now. Less pay more work is the outside. Welcome to the real world, your gravy train is over.

To be honest, I haven’t enjoyed living for what is getting to be quite a while now. I don’t really see the point of it’s only going to get harder.

Thank you! Lots of us feel the same way. It su-ks but it is what it is. Ignore the others who are callously posting. Just take it a step at a time.

Seriously. Is this is the thought process of some of you employees? No wonder you're getting cut.

Had been feeling the same way, and I know this sounds cliche, but start focusing on your health as intently as you do your work. Take exercise and eat well as much as you can fit it into your schedule. I had been neglecting this for years until the start of this year. Whether or not I have a future with CVX, I’ll at least have a healthier me to figure out a path forward.

@ax+1jv3ydde2 You must have experience trying to overcompensate “down there” since you sound like a di-k.

Here, here.

Hard to believe this is real. Hard to believe it’s just the start.

I work 12-16 hours a day on my job, side hustles, trying pick up skills, applying for jobs I don’t even get interviews from. I’m so sad.
