Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

"You're lucky you have a job"

I swear, if another person tells me this, I'll scream in their face. Is the bar really that low? Seriously?

@b8 That's exactly what Sh!ttybank's problem is.

Sh!ttybank can only attract and retain the desperate, and often Low Caliber employees the Real Banks do NOT want. The employees who are long term unemployed and/or desperate (have high expense, debt, mortgage, etc.) because NO other employer will hire them except Sh!ttybank.

Having a Low Caliber workforce leads to operational, financial and technological Fvck Ups that Sh!ttybank has had since the beginning of time, in addition to having Consent Orders plural, every year, getting hit with monetary fines by the FRB and OCC every few months, MRIAs, accidentally wiring Billions or Trillions of US$ to the wrong recipients every few months (Just Google the $1 Billion wire Fvck Up in the year 2020; $18 Trillion wire Fvck Up a few months ago, etc., etc., etc.).

Every bank has Consent Orders, MRIAs, wire Fvck Ups, etc.. But Not to the degree, frequency and extent as Sh!ttybank. So sad.......LMFAO!

It's like Sh!ttybank is a walking advertisement on How NOT to do Banking. And an advertisement for Customers/Svckers: If you want to lose your money, "bank" at Sh!ttybank.

I know Citi loves a desperate employee. “I’m doing you a favor by letting you work here. Better put in the extra extra or you’ll be out of my favor. Really kick it up a notch by working weekends. Don’t hold back any, by the way, you’ll not be given any bump in pay for it by the end of the year. “ These exact words are not used but definitely inferred, insinuated and orchestrated. In short, here’s more work and the deadline is shortened, summed up with do it or else….and be thankful you work here…you owe me for allowing it.

What state are you in? Also my application sat in recruiter review for like 11 weeks to get rejected. Thankfully I got a job at another bank weeks before and so this didn't effect me..

Well it's true, those of us that come outside of banking, the salaries are miserable, and with what I got here I was supposed to be well off, well not, because 6 figure salary is the equivalent of who knows what now because a single piece of desk cleaner is like 16 dollars when cheap stuff like that should be $7 dollars max. I am affording what I could afford when I made a third of what I make now.

@g3

Who's saying the posters on this site are Not actively interviewing to get the H3ll out of $hittibank ???

One of the main reasons $hittibank is buried in Consent Orders, monetary fines, violations, MRIAs, technological and operational problems, incompetence, accidentally wiring Billions or Trillions of US$ to the wrong recipients every few months etc. is because it can only attract and retain Low Calibre Dregs Incompetent employees the Real Banks (GS, JPMC, BofA, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, etc.) don't want.

$hittibank gets the Real Banks' trash. These are the employees that will remain at $hittibank if it even survives past the year 2030. ROTFLMFAO!

Rome was Not built in one year and Rome was Not destroyed in on year. Tick Tock!

The tone of “you’re lucky to have a job” is dismissive and authoritarian, designed to instill fear rather than foster respect. It frames employment as a scarce privilege instead of a mutual exchange of value, stripping workers of agency and dignity. By insisting there are “no options out there,” management pushes a false scarcity narrative that discourages mobility and traps employees in a mindset of dependence. In reality, opportunities always exist—whether through reskilling, lateral moves, or shifting industries—and this rhetoric reveals more about insecure leadership than the actual job market.

I got laid off a competitor last march, just starting a job next month. So yes you are lucky. A job and money do not matter until you have neither...

From a person who knew what it's like to be unemployed for a long time, I can say they are right.
My job here is stressful and I scream and curse, but I am grateful for it, as I need to work. I am not a rich person and it's not fun searching for work every day, not getting interviews or being rejected.
Just saying.

If you hear that from a manager don’t scream just tell them quietly but forcefully never to tell you that again.

Be prepared to walk shortly there after.

A job is not a right, and no one is owed a job.

Your reaction to being told "you're lucky you have a job" should come from a place of honesty.

If you don't need to work because you're financially independent, or if you have other offers you find appealing, or if you know without any doubt that you can pick up another job that gives you what you want (or at least maintains parity with what Citi is giving you); then your reaction might be to laugh in that person's face.

But if you need the job you have with Citi, and/or are not confident you can quickly find another one that's not a step down, then you may want to think about saying "you're right".
