Dont understand "severance"

Its not a gift.

Its called "Severance and release" for a reason. to get it, you need to sign and agreement not to sue and non-disclosure

Maybe someone can upload the pdf, although that violates the NDA lol.

It is technically negotiable, but very few people do.

It is not really severance. its mostly just release (for which you are paid).

I'm way past worrying about what random anonymous bootlicker thinks. Back to your cube.

If you are part of the round of “efficiencies” but are also eligible for retirement, can you still get retirement benefits?

Don't care what it's called or what it is. Just give me my 26 weeks of pay. Not leaving without it.

I work with someone who won’t look for a new job because they feel like they are owed severance. Old manager let them get away with mediocre work but praised them like they was all star. New manager not so much.

Technically correct.

Severance is not a gift. It's a benefit, which is why it's in the Benefits Book.

Publicly available, appendix F

@a2 I'm assuming the poster posted this because every so often someone posts about severance being cancelled. Or laid off people will get less severance than folks laid off previously. Although, these things are in the employee handbook and can't be changed on a whim.

you'll have a better chance of negotiating not getting laid off then you will negotiating your severance amount.
