Common Cause

The only common cause identified in this Thanos finger snap round of layoffs is proximity to management. If you weren’t seeing your direct manager in an office setting, you were affected. It seems that TMO and MS not only want you in an office, but in a setting where you can be micro managed.

Let’s just be honest, none of it makes sense. There have been remote workers as well as people based in the HQ cities that were impacted. I was legacy Magenta, so can personally vouch that it was not all legacy Sprint folks. I know someone who won PEAK last year that was impacted recently, so they can’t pretend it’s performance centered either. Leadership has completely lost their way at TMO, it’s that simple.

I think there's a lot of confusion on this because different departments are applying different criteria. Educated guess is that a VP gets a metric to hit, and it's up to them how they do it.

One department may opt to lose fewer high-paid headcount, while another may go off performance reviews, skill overlap, etc.

You get all of these different teams comparing notes and the whole picture gets murky.

Legacy Sprint/Legacy Magenta. This was completely monetary driven as I know managers(possibly sr managers) had no input at all. Pencil pushers gave the names and said here, start their exit strategy.

The total is 3600 this week. The target groups our former Sprint for three reasons one many were remote workers, two they were longer tenured and higher salary, and third well they were former Sprint and often vocal about the immaturity of the T-mobile leadership. The second group was those that even with medical reasons were not vaccinated and third group was all remote workers. T-mobile wants total control and micro-management of employees.

All job titles have a salary range, low/middle/high. The goal is usually to have most if not all within the middle area of the range. The "newbies" are usually more towards the low range, with tenured people being more towards the high end. By cutting from both ends of the spectrum it aligns groups more towards the middle range.

Thanos ... very good analogy. Some exceedingly talented people were let go, while some lazy coasters remained. It's like Mikey boy was pulling names from a hat and laughing (Dr Evil) as the name is read.

I'm not so sure this is true. I saw in-office people affected, and some survivors who work from home.
