Cengage (and all textbook companies) have a major culture problem. These aren’t serious people. Everyone outside the companies talks about it.

What they deem as productivity measurements are distractions disguised as productivity. Constant Slack check ins by managers with emojis like a parent checking in on their children, the million Slack channels that are created, the utter useless salesforce boxes that have to be checked- and they wonder why they have stagnant growth. Teams Meetings that could be emails where everyone is in the chat sending gifs, getting asked immature d-mb questions and they want you to put your answer in the chat. Absolutely NONE of these items drive growth or productivity. It’s a culture of immaturity that are checking boxes that make them look like they are working and contributing. The hours wasted are immeasurable.

Everyone knew Slack was a massive distraction and doesn’t drive growth or sales 10 years ago. It should be used for acute things, not on the daily. Always behind the curve.

The smaller players still have strong employee culture, authors and actual new editions. Norton, Sage, Oxford employees have a far different experience than the one you describe.

@at not to mention the millions they’ve lost in Gale sales the last 3 wks. Cengage’s name is dirt in the library…..but they didn’t want to hear that.

The joke is the Executive Team! SW stupid statement the other day... "we would hope that faculty are choosing our product for more than the reason of who the rep is" .... lol. As though, MindTap, OWL , or WebAssign are so superior to Mylab, Connect or Simnet. . She has no knowledge of the publishing industry ( this ain't microsoft baby) and (it ain't covid )... her so called claim to fame selling the cloud to businesses during an pandemic! Woo Woo must have been hard,,,NOT! Cengage's products are subpar and if you add in Ai, answering all of the questions for the students, Cengage products will be irrelevant by 2027. To respond to SW stupid statement... YES IT IS THE REPS WHO BRING THE VALUE TO YOUR CLP/OLP/HOMEWORK PLATFROM!! With the recent changes in territories, I guarantee a 7% to 10% drop in sales. over the next 5 months. BUT does it matter, will the board keep any of these lack luster Executives after the IPO?

There are Slack workflows my team uses that are highly productive and efficient, HOWEVER... soooo many Slack channels and some people belong to a ridiculous number of ERG groups and "fun" channels and it's those people who are completely distracted and therefore unproductive. I know someone who attends every single ERG meeting available for absolutely no reason.. Yeah it's a joke
