Guess ‘Efficiency’ Means Keeping the Yes-Men and Cutting the Doers

It finally happened. Tons of solid, hard-working people gone.
Some cuts probably made sense. But let’s be honest — a lot of what’s left looks like the professional “yes” crowd whose core skill is ego management, not actual delivery. Feels like the unofficial qualification was: if you ever told the truth, challenged bad decisions, or answered HR questions honestly… congrats, you made the list.

Meanwhile some of the lowest-output, highest-time-su-kers, leadership-echo personalities are still here somehow.
Efficiency? right. Wild selection strategy.

You all that got cut this time think this is unique to you? Every person who lost their job since Covid said the exact same thing. They all said Crown kept the wrong employees. The reality is, there hasn’t been any clear reason to who stays and who goes. It’s probably a combination of a few things like someone’s cheaper salary for instance. When the cuts happen again later this year those people will also say Crown kept the wrong employees, but I bet they outsource entire departments then. The bottom line is that a bunch of people lost their jobs for no particular reason. Saying you deserved to be kept instead of someone else is d-mb. Sh-t happen, get over it.

Of the 20 or so people I know that were let go, there was really only one that I thought was a big mistake. I have a suspicion she would have wound up totally remote, and therefore wouldnt fit the return to office mandate. So it's probably either that you were expendable, an underperformer, or not near one of the offices that people are going to be forced to return to.

Crown has had twice as many employees as it needs for a long time, unfortunately. Just because you want to cosplay tech company, with bloated agile practices and "digital transformation" doesn't mean you automatically reap profits and valuations of a tech company.

Leadership are leftovers from better days and we continue to let them make decisions. Our competitors will not be worried and customers won’t be excited. We continue to make more problems for ourselves.

@at they totally picked from a hat and the ones that get on their nerves because no business logic was applied at all kind of proving the point for as small as we are and don’t pretend we are or we’re big, you shouldn’t be that removed that you made decisions this badly!

I don’t get the sense that there was any rhyme or reason. I saw some amazing employees leave today, and also some real a--holes. A lot of these cuts seem like they were made at a level removed from even knowing who the employees were. Like they just had a number and cut on some random metric (locations maybe?). Saying they targeted certain types of people gives them too much credit.

I survived. I know I work hard. But survivors guilt is real not knowing why I made it through.
