Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron IT - here they come

now they are asking us to onboard replacements without even sharing the new org structure. Duh.... is it not obvious then? can't wait?

Leadership is a mess having to train our replacement in a hurry well before the actual org structures. Unbeliavable

@106+1: Much, much higher than 50%. Think 70-85%. Anything to save a few bucks and get your nice little ELT bonus!

They are actively hiring many 100’s of IT people in ENGINE since March now. Just lots of warm bodies in seats. And forcing US IT to train them. Told Manila, BA, India, MSP’s and contractors are all safe. That means it’s mostly American employee IT jobs being lost - I’m guessing 50% What a train wreck.

I can’t wait to see which GM actually had the cajones to pick up ranjan and want to manage that fraud of an external hire

Management never feels the heat no matter how much the upper levels preach accountability.

Our product line doesn’t even have anyone at ENGINE to transfer info to. I’ve heard most are just MSP contractors that will only be around a short time until they finally hire an employee. I can’t imagine what a nightmare IT and Chevron will be like for next two years.
This doesn’t seem to be going as planned at all and hope management feels the heat.

They can ask all they want, our training will be very minimal. Have fun ENGINE

The 26-27 selections happened. Leaving boxes unfilled so LC can get his loser incompetent friends who were laid off by GM to fill those boxes. All those re--rds aren’t still at GM. It’s not as if LC is poaching them. These are people who were laid off by GM when their departments budgets got cut and they became casualties.

They might keep architects but ironically it won’t do them any good because they don’t do dev work. They just direct work. It will be the blind leading the blind

give them what they deserve. We will all be out of jobs and I’m not buying the story they’re telling that we’ll all have US jobs if we want it. That knowledge will be walking out the door WITH me.
loving copilot. The said AI will be displacing jobs so let’s start now.

Doubtful. I've seen pretty much every role in engine on the jobs site. I have yet to see architect (not to be confused with solution architect).

Received similar communication the other day. It's pathetic.

It's even worse, they are asking us to train fly-by-night msp workers because the engine standup has been such a failure. I have a overachiever friend who thought she can finish strong to help her chance. Making guides and list of videos. When she ask how to ensure videos don't expire too soon(that she doesn't own) when people leave, IT had no plan and a ton of red tape. Even those MS says is technically simple. Even those people trying to make things smooth can't navigate this mess!

At least we have copilot to generate a ton of onboarding materials that make no sense but look legit.

I agree with you, there will be so few new job positions in the USA there will be nowhere to get a role. The new management team wants everyone to think they have a chance but there will not be many positions remaining in the US.

I think it's funny the new management is asking people to train the new staff and more than half of the new staff have not been hired yet. So they are telling the current employees to record videos and save the files for cross training future staff. :)

Are any IT roles less at risk than others? Like would say a data scientist or MLE or DE fare better than a software engineer or application engineer? Would management roles be safer? Just trying to get a sense

No org charts yet because many teams won’t even exist in US on the chart and they want people still optimistic enough to train replacements.
