How do you backtrace someone on here and get their IP address?

There isn’t some grand conspiracy. The company thread was published on X and likely drew professional trolls.
There have been a handful of hateful comments, but it hit critical mass today and derailed discussion (“forum sliding”).
I imagine a lot of it is random internet users with no ties to the company who are just capitalizing on the opportunity to kick people while they are down.
Best to just not engage.
Post and Reply IDs
- Every thread has a unique thread ID (example: +1k3kRc0B2)
- The Original Poster (OP) always shows as @OP+threadID
- Each reply gets its own post ID with a short prefix (example: @az+1k3kRc0B2)
- The suffix after the + matches the thread ID, so all replies in a thread share it
- You can reference someone by typing their Post ID (example: @az+1k3kRc0B2 or just @az if inside the same thread)
And it’s not “poster ID”, it’s a “post ID”. You get a new ID each time you post something.
Within a thread, every reply has its own unique ID. The prefix is different for each reply, while the suffix matches the thread ID. The original poster's ID starts with the 'OP' prefix.
And every thread has its own unique thread ID.
@as I know how this site works. It's okay, from looking at posts made by your posting id it's different from OP. You're good. Notice the ones started by OP there is a chain of about 4 in a row in the main thread started by OP then you can see other users. You can then see OP's ID in the comments. Just because the site is anonymous doesn't mean there isn't a common identifier of posters. This is what a poster ID is. Same first 2 letters randomly assigned to you when you post. As you engage it keeps it and changes the last couple letter.
It's all good. It's a nothing burger. No sense in making more drama. OP needs to touch grass and smoke some of it at the same time. I get it's a pressing day, some of us are still waiting to hear and it's horrible.
Oh, yes, there are Mods and Admins here...
Thre was a sea of posts that are off topics, rude, insulting, etc.
Some recent examples: Kamala Harris Simps thread -- Girlboss feminist thread -- DEI thread --- multiple Gender threads -- etc.
While this may be of interest to someone, the vast number of users just do not care and this sutff is preventing the site from operating and doing what it needs to do - provide space for sharing info about layoffs. Look at the content rules and user agreement, they are specific about what's allowed. Discussions about politics, insulting people, religion, etc. are topics that are not welcome.
And if you think they are not moderating you are gravely mistaken. If they were not to moderate this site would turn into a cesspool of insults, profanity, nsfw stuff and illegal stuff - so, they have to do it and judging that every single company in universe is here on the site i'd bet money they have automated ways of doing this on top of manual reviews that sit on top of that.
Now, trolls... judging on how quickly they remove trolling posts i'd say we'll be fine as they seem to be removed every 30 minutes or so. some disapear a few minutes after i see them, so that's promissing. trolls will realize that they type and spend a ton of time to distroy this thread but at some points they will realize there is a lot of writting they need to do only to be removed a few moments after they post - they will figure out that it's a losing game.
@at I think you're confused and don't understand fully how this site works. Each poster has a poster ID even though it's anonymous. Every time you respond to some one it gives their random assigned name. Yours's will always be a1, mine will always be ab or whatever. You can also see when that user responds to their own post it's the same starting OP, or AB, or AR with a couple letters at the end different. Lol. You can literally see how it works by just looking. Either way this is a nothing burger. Good to move on.
@ar Every starting post's ID starts with OP. The site uses that to delineate the Original Poster (which is common internet vernacular on threaded sites) from people who reply.
You are confused. I’ve voiced concerns about HBAs and offered some spicy rebuttals. Nothing whatsoever about DEI, women, or anything else. Those posts and comments were made by another person or group of people.
If people think my comments were ill-timed and I’m a je-k, I accept that. I did make a dedicated post to avoid diluting the other discussion. But I did feel compelled to come in here and confront you and errors you are spewing.
Like I said, this isn’t some conspiracy. That’s something you made up on your own. I don’t know what else to tell you, man.
@aq Your posting ID is aq the other person's posting ID is OP. There is a difference. Maybe your posts haven't shown up because of OP's posts and rage baiting. Also there are no moderators on here.
In any case you admit to making the posts about HBA's that are useless, do nothing, are DEI hire and should be fired? If so that's pretty low, false and glad you're gone from the firm as the person that made that post also said they got laid off about 4 hours ago in another rage rant. Which tied into how women should never be CEO's.
So which is it? Are you OP or are you AQ? The posting ID's don't lie.
My advice is to stop. Just stop. If you're OP and you're rage posting, just stop. The authentic posts have dropped because of your bigotry, racism, and s-xism. Internally we are telling people to no look at the layoff due to all this misinformation which the poster that goes by OP is posting. An email ahs already been sent to support and they have responded that they are looking into it. There were about 12 posts in total by OP and about 42 comments from the same author spreading hate and misinformation.
So are you still that person? Just stop.
@ap Untrue. I’m the one that’s been posting about HBAs. I haven’t made a single post or comment about politics, DEI or whatever else. Whatever other comments you think were made by me, they weren’t.
There isn’t some conspiracy using Twitter bots or whatever. I’m not using a VPN and I’m not in overseas. Maybe you think you know how to use a computer but based on the blatant falsities you posted, you have no idea what you’re talking about.
There isn’t some boogeyman on this board. Just regular folks saying stuff you don’t like (me) or hateful things that I have nothing to do with and also condemn.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
@ae it's actuall @OP that wanted to know. Someone has called them out in multiple racists posts they have made that their VPN they are using is showing foreign countries all while OP can't spell properly. This leads to the fact that the user that is going by OP is not genuine nor an employee or was an employee of EDJ. All the comments and posts about Women, HBA's and all the negative ones are done by the user called OP. Additionally this person or most likely bot has about 6 other accounts commenting. They are actively using a Twitter Bot to make posts and comments. So they are paranoid now. The user known as OP people respond to should be nervous and should stop posting fake engagement rage bait posts. I'm glad this person is no longer an employee of Jones if they ever were. They do not belong at any company like this.
30 minutes since posting and 400 people at Edwards Jones saw this. LOL. And everyone hates this request.
May be an undergrad looking to hire a ghost writer for a cover letter to a jones job.
How is that remotely related to IP address? I have no idea. Can I help with the OP question? He-l No.
@op this site would be dead in a day if one was to be able to do that.
it looks like they've been around for 17 years which tells me that folks like you cannot get what you are asking for.
I think we found Penny.
@OP you are so weird for this
@ab if i am accessing this from my personal phone or at home, network or security will not have clue about it. the site is going through the https, therefore data flow is encripted, so nobody can know what's going back and forther. the worse case scenario here is that one gets in trouble because he or she is using a company provided device on a company internet connection, in that case they will know which site you are hitting but they will be unaware and cannot find out what data is exchanged between your computer and the website. there is nothing network or security can do in order to find this out. i am actually writting this on a company computer and on a company network, i just do not care what they think because they cannot know what i am doing here.
Did they harm you in anyway, shape or form? Did they slander you and call you out by name on here?
Why do you really need to know ones IP address?
Having 12 downvotes on 200 views tells you what people think about this question.
We do not want you knowing who we are otherwise we would have a facebook discussion group.
We are just fine here where our privacy is kept secure.
Dig somewhere else.
@OP It's not easy to do but Network Engineers and those in SecOps can find ways to obtain IP address to see origin of IP. Not much additional info can be gathered, but it can at least disclose some not so sensitive information. Why not ask this on Reddit or any other forum? I think your paranoia is getting to you. I would recommend you stop doom posting nonsense and go lay in the bed you've earned.
This site is designed to precisely make such things very difficult if not outright impossible.
You need one of these, probably the court order:
- Subpoena: a demand to testify or produce documents, usually for evidence gathering... Can be issued by a court or sometimes by attorneys. Ignoring it can mean contempt.
- Court order: a judge’s directive that decides or compels something in a case... Broader than a subpoena. Must be issued by the court. Disobeying it can mean contempt and other penalties.
What possible reason do you have other than to further ruin someone's life? It is bad enough that people are getting cut for the sake of greed. OP must be a billionaire.
i dont think you can. i am not even sure if the site is tracking ips, probably not, and even if they do, you would need a court order to obtain that from them. imagine all the websites that you visit, and how would you feel if someone was to be able to see where your ip went. layoffs.com would be legaly liable if they were to give you that ip address as they have a duty to keep info private unless the user consents to them sharing the the data. hope this helps, i am in infosec so i have some background here but i am not an expert and my degree of certainty is about 95% here...
Not happening unless the forum owner is provided a subpoena due to a credible threat or illegal behavior such as libel.
Your only option is to contact the infamous hacker known as 4chan. He's the only one that can help you!
Hush, "Help" and go back to your HR Governance babysitting role!
Why do you need to that? Are you in HR trying to find people to dump?
