Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Hybrid policy enterprise rollout

Bless everyone who is struggling right now. Hoping to get answers about the hybrid policy rollout. Our team was told today that eventually by end of year, the entire enterprise, all associates, will be expected to work onsite in-office. Are there any friendly HR folks or others who got insight from HR regarding the way this impacts 100% remote/virtual employees? Some of us were hired as fully virtual employees, and we don't have a Pulsepoint location within 50 miles. So, are there any plans being made to work within the existing arrangement? Are they going to allow any individual contributors to remain as 100% remote?

@e6 You are spot on. I am witnessing the same thing at my PulsePoint location. Driving 1+ hour in rush hour traffic and based on the number of people assigned to the location, a lot of employees and managers are NEVER stepping foot into the office. I can only surmise they have worked out a system where badges are being swiped without those specific employees being present at the time.

How do they monitor? By name badge scans in parking lot entry or turnstile scans in lobby entry or actual computer login data?

I have been waiting to be riffed to roll into retirement, so I won't quit. I will force them through the aggravation of documenting it to 'dismiss' me for not going in 3+ full days a week. Then I will roll into retirement. :)

Looking at this post to find out: What's the plan for the employees who are 100% remote and don't have any pulsepoint locations within a 50 mile radius or don't have pulsepoints within their state???

Heads up there are Directors getting away with not going it but forcing their managers to do it - HR needs to examine every single one of them. Typical shady behavior.

Some may be remote not close to a pulse point but not all. I know of plenty of remote workers in different ops departments that are between 5-25 miles from our pulse point and they never step foot in it while some of us are over 50 miles and were told to deal with it and go in every week. Its obvious certain leaderships are making their own rules when it comes to RTO.

@cy+1jt6k7542 Some are 100% remote and don't have any pulsepoint locations within a 50 mile radius, some employees don't even have pulsepoints within their state!

That is such good news to hear. I received a 2% merit and a 45% AIP. Now I have to drive in paying about $300 a week on gas because I am 48 miles away and will be sitting in traffic over 2.5 hrs a day. Might as well just demote me. Let me think twice next time I am assigned an urgent project or an aggressive due date. 0% chance I will put it the hours I am putting in today.

Don't argue. They told us to go in and collaborate with people we don't know. Stop getting on constant calls. Stop working so hard. They don't want us to be productive. If they did, they'd let you chose an arrangement that works best for you.
Follow your instructions. Go in. Socialize for your "full day" 3x a week. Bring snacks so you don't have to pay for them. Decline calls because it's too loud. Miss deadlines because you're in traffic. Re-live the 1900s!

No more overtime for me I'm not going to drive an hour each way, work 8 hours then come home and work. So for sure they are losing the 2 hours of transit and the other extra 4 or so hours that I put in every day and weekends. With all the layoffs and everyone expected to do the work of 2-2 1/2 people, stuff is not going to get done so they will be facing more interest, fines, penalties, state insurance commission complaints, etc. These people can't see the Forrest for the trees.

Also, besides our CEOs and big wigs, exuberant salaries, they’re all working remote most of the time too as most of them are also getting paid millions of dollars from other corporations to be on their Board of Directors as well. Just a quick Google search of their names show you the other companies that their contracted with. So none of this is about collaboration. It’s keeping their thumb on the worker bees. It’s all control and getting us to leave so they don’t have to pay us benefits.

I was remote before covid due to office closures and I am in the office once a week since 2023. Trust me…me and others tried everything to get out of it. I am at the 50 mile limit and over an hour each way. They don’t care.

@a9+1jt6k7542 maybe you have only been working remotely since 2020, but many of us have been remote for over 15 years. Your statement reeks of conclusions drawn from generalizations. We can't "return" to office if we've never worked there in the first place

@as+1jt6k7542 if your statement is true then Management is doing a poor job. It's Management's responsibility to monitor deliverables and hold their staff accountable. That doesn't justify return to office for non-management staff.

Also, absolutely no position warrants millions of dollars a year for your job title. It’s not about abusing remote work. Getting paid millions of dollars in your salary for multiple positions and then trading in stock before the market crashes is abuse. Period

The post above is absolutely untrue about performance and productivity issues and abusive remote work. That’s not the case at all or else they’d be bringing hourly associates back in. Most of the associates coming back in our salary leadership positions that are on nonstop phone calls so they’re tracking us anyways cause they know about all the calls we are on with them. So nice try.

The misuse of remote work is causing these issues. Who is working from remote? Back to office is best. There is no monitoring of who is working and who is not, no tracking if deliveries. Total misuse of company money. Companies are running charities by providing remote work.

"Get ready for mass quitting. I will not go back in the office."

That is music to the executive leadership team's ears. If it comes to pass, their true end-goal will be achieved.

@a9+1jt6k7542 I was hired as remote 15 years ago. Prior to that I was a field based employee. Remote work has been common in the insurance industry for a long time.

@a9+1jt6k7542, employees were hired as 100% remote, prior to 2020, hundreds of miles away from any pulsepoint location. it wasn't something that started in 2020. That's why there is a concern for these folks.

They are installing systems to have us badge in and badge out. You basically then have salary employees clocking in and out.

Prior to the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the earth people went in the office M-F.

Not a big fan of going back myself but this is going to be happening everywhere soon, just at better places then this hitshow.

And if we're going back then Gail better be leading the way. 😂

Do not quit. Let them fire you for insubordination. Or it’s time for us to unionize. If you start to unionize, they cannot legally fire you for participating in union activities. Then we file a lawsuit.

FWIW, I am a people leader director and have heard nothing about a hybrid policy being implemented for anyone who is current listed as Virtual. I am only aware of people leaders and director equivalents moving from Hybrid 1 (one day per week) to Hybrid 2 (three days per week) on 7/15.

It might be 1 day a week for remote workers, if that, because there is no room in certain locations. But they may have different expectations for large offices.
