Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Cycle Recycle

Gotta love how the management that got us in this mess are left untouched while the common men are affected.

Prayers for those affected, remain positive... Control your thoughts, don't let them control you. There's light always at the end of the tunnel

You are both wrong for the same reasons.
One of you think that the status quo is bad because of who that is.
One of you think that DEI is bad because of who that is.
The reality - both result in promotions of unqualified people.

@ed There is a great body of research that shows that meritocracy maintains the status quo and is in fact a myth. You might do well to read some of that. Or read about the ultimatum game (a common psyxhological experiment) where success begets more selfish behavior.

@e7 it’s because they weren’t the most qualified candidate. Your statement implies that they would be getting passed over because of immutable traits, which is the opposite of the point of the post. The DEI promos aren’t the smartest, or hardest working, or most qualified, but they get the opportunity because of . Bring back meritocracy that’s color blind.

@dr And why not? Would you not be happy that some of your under-represented colleagues (women, men, persons of color, etc) are now finally getting some representation despite working hard to prove themselves while yet still being ignored? Would you rather that the status quo be a good ole boys club? I've seen way more qualified DEI hires than the usual staple of promotions since they actually had to work to get some recognition. And I think that's a good thing. Yet what we find on this forum is the usual supremacist victim hood trope about "cleansing" departments from DEI hires because someone was butt hurt they were overlooked for a promotion. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

@d9 and that’s why the minority of women in the company get more than half of the available promotions. The TMTs actually track and report those metrics, since it is important to the ELT.

@cp If you’re referring to White anglo saxon protestant men as being more qualified we still have a lot of those in COP. Things really haven’t changed much since the 80s. MAGA much in your free time? Thanks in advance for downvoting, by the way.

It would be a good opportunity to cleanse out the DEI hires and promotions, but management wouldn’t want to admit those errors and put more qualified people in those positions!

@ar I would, but I'd be exposing myself... The whole point of this site is to anonymously post...

@ar don’t look down. Look up. The top dawg even admitted to why we are in the position we are in rn. But the ELT will never be held accountable. The people of that actually deliver the shareholder value will suffer

@an I would love to know which department you work for so I can understand which of your managers performance caused the whole company to require job cuts.

@a6 I'm speaking for at least my department, these have been my observations and observations of others. Most of the managers are still around.

Is Conoco doing a VSP to at least provide an out for older employees who are willing to retire. That is the kind thing to do. But then again try to find kind in any company handbook.

  1. All of our competitors & peers are going through the exact same thing. If you think our management is in control of the cycles then you are out of touch and give them way more credit than they deserve.
  2. Did you not read any of your emails? There are plenty of managers that are no longer going to be here. I don't think you are very informed about what is going on.
