Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

To the wireline Union

I’m one of the corporate engineers who was going to fill in for the strike and was part of the lay offs. Hope you guys still do the strike. They laid off lots of competent engineers that usually fill in for strikes. Make them feel the pain!

No strike. Dan will cut a good deal with the union and negotiate a real buyout to reduce headcount.

I was really hoping to hold on for one last strike duty assignment before I got the axe but I didn't make it. My favorite part of my 20 yrs was field tech fantasy camp during the strike, doing some of the simple cr-p in the COs, 12 hr days 6 per week, RAKING in cash for a month or two. Living in NYC in a hotel was awesome!

i work in a central office. There's hardly any work. Most of the work is routines and "projects" . I talk to many of the outside techs as well . Work has slowed especially the past year. The union would be foolish to even consider a strike. You thought 45 days was long last time we walked. What was the win that time? Anyone? Nothing..There wont be a stirke.For the engineers here. Stop giving co work away.

They don't need management. Why they aren't worried about it. The have all frontier contractors from all states aquiring, trained Tillman/Eaton techs from that deal brewing. Lots of non union wireless and starry people. People laid off that will need work also if they don't have jobs.
Only hope is company will be so out of control they don't want a work stoppage

@aq

Bad phrasing but hope you guys get what you want from the company. If needed, striking will inflict more than usual pain and should give union folks more leverage. Appreciate you!

Yeah nice attitude hoping to mess VZ up and make it so even more are laid off. Whether associate or mgmt, wireline or wireless. United we stand divided we fall

@OP wireline employee here. Not sure why you hope we go on strike, we hope we don’t but are prepared if needed. Very odd comment to say.
With that said most of feel the opposite as you. We feel bad you were laid off and hope you end up on your feed and find success in whatever you do next

@am the repair and rescheduled workload when the strike was over shows that. “Covering” and actually doing the work, and/or doing it correctly are two different things

Ode To A Scab

After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, and the vampire, He had some awful substance left with which He made a scab. A scab is a two-legged animal with a corkscrew soul, a waterlogged brain, and a combination backbone made of jelly and glue. Where others have hearts, he carries a tumor of rotten principles.

When a scab comes down the street, men turn their backs and angels weep in heaven, and the devil shuts the gates of he-l to keep him out. No man has a right to scab as long as there is a pool of water deep enough to drown his body in, or a rope long enough to hang his carcass with. Judas Iscariot was a gentleman compared with a scab. For betraying his Master, he had character enough to hang himself. A scab hasn't.

Esau sold his birthright for a mess of pottage. Judas Iscariot sold his savior for thirty pieces of silver. Benedict Arnold sold his country for a promise of a commission in the British Army. The modern strikebreaker sells his birthright, his country, his wife, his children, and his fellow men for an unfulfilled promise from his employer, trust, or corporation

@OP Last time they sent ADs and SDs to fill in for the striking workers and they paid overtime. Many people rushed to fill in. Getting overtime on a SD base salary must be pretty sweet.
