25 years. Vbg. Original MCI employee. 64 years old. Can’t help but see it’s my age. Seems I’m the only one on my team. Oh well. Off date 2/20/26. So much for being a loyal employee.

MCI was amazing until Worldcom took it over and burned it to the ground. My dad worked there after starting with WUI who MCI acquired from 1980-1995 mostly out of Rye Brook NY and Piscataway NJ. Always took care of him and gave him great opportunities.
@am False. MCI wasn't the problem. WorldCom was. And WC's business practices weren't "suspect," they were criminal. That's why people went to prison.

Apart from the scrap heap of MCI.. there was nothing wrong with MCI until worldcom… yeah I am also original MCI..
MCIWorlcom and post Bernie became for the most part Verizon Business..
so when they say he has been here for 25 years at MCI, same thing… Tbey are clearly a survivor, sadly up until today.
Sorry to hear your position was impacted. Hopefully you're close enough to retirement to bridge to that next phase if that's your intention.
Original MCI means you've been around telecom for many years, even decades. I once met Bill McGowan at an MCI Shareholders meeting in ~1989. He was smart as a whip which even just speaking to him for a few minutes I picked up on. Unfortunately, MCI's business practices and ethics were extremely suspect. As such, they ended up in the corporate scrap heap.

The credo is a joke - I think they need to re-think that around money and greed! People just don't matter!!! Not at these #'s.
I don't want to discount what your feeling/thinking. I'll simply let you know I'm still here with over 30 years with the company. 30+ I don't like what VZ is doing but did want to let people know. Over the years I've seen the direction the company was heading and did my best to stay in those growing areas.

@ab yeah VSP didn’t work for me insurance wise. It was considered. This one does. Just hurts.

@OP There's another thread on here with everyone posting their ages and they are everywhere from 20's to 60's. It is terrible this happened to you, but I wouldn't not take your severance to file an age lawsuit that will go nowhere based on what I have seen in the other thread.
There are tons of people in their 30s and 40s getting the message today. Different ethnicities so sure, it’s about you and your age. Good luck with that
@OP If no one else tells this, as a fellow colleague of over a decade and likely never met. Thank you for your service and best of luck. Took all of us, companies don't run themselves. This company like many others has been built by great people who put years of hardwork and dedication into it.

So sorry, hope severance will take you to 65. Save $$ for Medicare, it is no joke $1850 for 3 months. I took VSP last year, 65 yrs old.
