I agree, trying to supplement income for all people in this situation is nuts. But, if AI delivers, be prepared for some form of civil unrest. Increased crime, increased homelessness etc, at the very least a lower standard of living. AGAIN, IF AI delivers. The k-shape recovery is rapidly encompassing lower AND middle class on the lower bound of the "k". Companies do not give a damn. Governments are running deficits because they don't have enough dollars coming in.
I've been in IT since the 80s. I've never seen the rapidity of the adoption of technology like i've seen with AI. CEOs are definitely falling for the hype. Good luck to us all.
The taxes will never be higher than the salaries they replaced. AI and robots will work 24x7 and never get tired or complain. People are a pain in the a$$ to manage

No one knows the future. You start taxing the AIs, they will still tax humans. Then again, if you get anywhere near the productivity that AI companies are claiming, there will be a major shift in unemployment. Listening to some of the CEOs talk about what happens if they don't adopt AI is expected. They say things like, if I don't adopt the productivity gains, my competitors will and we will be sunk.
They'll need to come up with a way to get revenue because if humans are getting fired more and more, who the heck will buy the products?
They talk about Universal Basic Income(UBI). You think they are going to give anyone a wage where they can retire?LOL Not a chance.
