Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

HCSC environment

After nearly a decade with HCSC, I feel obligated to warn anyone considering staying here long-term. The environment has deteriorated to the point where even survivors of the layoffs are miserable. They've eliminated entire teams but didn't redistribute the workload properly, so now everyone's doing 2-3 jobs for the same pay. My advice: start your job search now while you still have energy. I've seen too many colleagues wait until they're completely burned out before looking, and then they struggle to interview well. Don't make that mistake, update your resume this weekend.

@vd Yet it’s still worthy of your two cents. Bwahaha.

I haven't seen any layoffs. Just the typical contractor purge earlier in the year. There have been leadership changes though and once you put in a new leader a mini reorganization will be underway . people moving here and there, some let go, a new name for the department so they can say they are doing some. I find this forum more full of garbage then actual good rumours.

Sounds like @aq is a member of the "friends and family" brigade.

It seems like this is the case at most large enterprises in this day and age though. I’ve worked for several of our competitors and it’s no different, so I’m not one of the lifers at HCSC. Not everyone is miserable at HCSC but true that the work load is high.

Sounds like somebody needs to take the mandatory empathy training.

@b9 The Blue Pulse is only reflective of a small percentage of staff that are bribed with a pizza party to reach 100%. Nobody wants that crusty pizza and we all know that survey is easily manipulated because the managers take it multiple times to spin it for the board.

@a1 Are you being sarcastic? As you’re walking the halls, I can promise you will see at least 5 empty cubes of people you thought were still there. They wait until everyone is in a meeting or going home to pounce.

@aq Seems that is already happening. Who knows, could be the end goal instead of forcing a layoff a general attitude of apathy toward employee work life balance and company culture will encourage individuals to leave and save the trouble.

@OP Do you think the Blue Pulse surveys reflect your sentiment?

@aq how about hcsc focus on creating an environment where people want to stay. How about competitive pay that reflects the market and individual contributions? How about clear paths for advancement and professional development? How about fostering a culture of respect, transparency? How about managers who are actually trained to lead and inspire, not just dictate?

@ap I agree. Productivity. 5 days a week in the office, if HCSC is such a bad place, leave. Like any company or organization, you have leaders who are not true leaders and you have workers who are slackers. If you are unhappy and you feel your talent is not supported. Let’s see what the market value is for you. If it’s a better deal as far as career path and lifestyle, leave and aim for higher success.

Could benefit from more focus on productivity and quality of work instead of butts in seats.

I second your sentiments here. I am a long-term employee as well and have been treated like absolute garbage. HCSC is being run into the ground by incompetence at every level. The C suite is completely under qualified for their jobs and relies on middle managers to run the company that lack experience and education. Human resources is ineffective and is not in a position to lead the organization towards meeting their goals for staffing or training. Customer service has never been fully staffed and the phones are constantly ringing off the hook. They send people out to the phones who have no experience and will sabotage the company by getting frustrated with the members that literally own the company. There are also many inappropriate relationships with managers and their subordinates. A lot of employees also waste a lot of time. There is a celebration for every holiday, birthday, baby shower, wedding shower and the list goes on and nobody ever seems to be working. It is a joke when you see empty floors that were built in a rush and not a single person other than the housekeeper watering the plants has stepped onto.
