Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Terms of Separation

anyone have insight into what the terms are when it comes to returning to the organization and paying back the severance? is it the same terms for everyone regardless of the amount? thinking I might be able to swing taking a year off.

I think it's possible for the organization to do what they need to do (restructuring, restabilize) and then I can see how things are a year from now.

also are there non-competes? I would hope they wouldn't tell us that we couldn't go to UHC, Cigna, Humana, etc... personally I don't feel like an organization should dictate what my next career move is.

@et Absolutely it is written to decrease their risk, offer to everyone but if it will hurt us we won't accept it etc.. What about our risk... Definitely leans way more in their favor but presented as a favor to us.

@an- It is safe to say the VSP is not about helping staff who planned to leave or retire. It’s so the company can save money on the even larger number of extended unemployment claims they would be facing without this approach. Let’s not kid ourselves that they’re doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they are doing what looks best to their stockholders.

@de yeah and this is the first time the company is offering a VSP. this is not the same rodeo. different circumstances than other layoffs.

but go off since you know everything.

@b5 if you’ve been here almost 10 years you survived several big layoffs.

Companies restructure all the time. Nothing “stabilizes”… not in this economy. Also, you’re asking about non compete. Go check out the boards on this website on those companies. How’s it looking? You want to go to a competition company since you think they’re stable? Go for it…

No one cares where you go after you officially leave the company. Not sure about execs but you don’t sound like an exec. You want out that bad? Go.

@an they are RIF people no matter what starting in August. 30-40% of the company will be gone. Including those in specialized roles. They are also moving people around again who will be taking on additional markets.

@at some people actually care about the communities we serve and this isn't just a job to them.

@an OP here. me leaving does not save someone else from being let go.

if the business does not deem a role to be critical or that role can be replaced by AI, they are going to cut that role/person regardless of what I do. thinking the company is going to save someone because someone else left is laughable. any and all cost savings will either line the higher ups pockets who remain OR will be reinvested into the business for the long term strategy.

I have been here almost 10 years and never planned on leaving, but I'm not about to be shown the door with a measly severance package when the layoff comes 'cause I didn't choose to leave now. play them like they play you.

There are only non-competes for the executives. You will notice people in the C-suite that retired magically took a new role 6-12 months after leaving Centene. During that time though they receive likely the equivalent of 1 year salary and benefits alonging with accelerated vesting of their stock options and RSU package.

@an Agree. Why would you take it and want to come
Back to this chaos that never stops.

If you plan on coming back, the VSP is not for you. The VSP is for people about to retire or had plans of leaving anyway, to spare a RIF on people who want to be at Centene over the medium to long term.

i’d rather drink toilet water that hadn't been flushed for a month, from a half-filled, year-old tuna can—than go back to this place after this is all said and done.-- However, if I don't get the VSP, then I'll be like: Heeeeeyyyy guys! SOOOO happy to be here!" BEEEESSSSSST job Eva!!!!

@ac the key is after the organization stabilizes...

After all this, turning around and coming back to this chaos is something people are actually considering?

Non competes are in effect for those with restricted stock unit awards typically.

I’ve never seen a non-compete clause in severance paperwork from Centene.
