Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Pure speculation

I left Dell but retained the stock.I see the Trump admin gave a big DoD contract to Dell that should have gone to Microsoft. The result is a 30% increase in the stock price.

I have no inside knowledge, but with most of the earnings coming from AI servers and services - how long before they spin off the PC and accessories business like IBM did some decades back?”

@cf I'd imagine the lots of cash is due to pitiful raises, no US promotions and idk... constant layoffs?

@an It’s technically DoD. Only Congress can change the name.

Purchasing scale used to be a huge benefit when Intel was a consequential player. Now that we are concerned with access to GPUs rather than shifting Intel CPUs for a $2B rebate (pocket change in the current era), perhaps things may change. Still seems unlikely we would bail on the client business for any number of reasons. I'm more interested in who we might acquire. We've got a bunch of cash all of a sudden.

No. The DoW contract would not go to Microsoft.

Dell is the top contract holder of Microsoft ELA's across the US Federal government.

The win is no surprise.

Considering the profit margins on servers and services is a lot more - a spinoff or outright sale seems to be a no brainer.

I have no inside info either. I’m waiting for the usual person who claims to be in HR or some other insider position to chime in.
