Hey Y’all. Recently laid off employee here. I would recommend hopping on LinkedIn and connecting with as many people as you can. I’m in a job program and they weren’t happy with my 89 connections, they wanted me to have more. Even if all you Target peeps don’t know each other, connect anyway, we need all the help we can get.

LinkedIn has a lot of good. After my quiet layoff from Target I updated status open to work. I've been contacted by several recruiters, some never called back but several dis and in fact got me interviews with hiring managers which ended up landing me a role.
@ap Ahhh, makes sense now. That's some longevity! Wishing you the best in your next chapter. It's never easy to start over again but wishing you well.
@an yep. Since the beginning of my career.
@a6 So sorry to hear about your situation. Thanks for sharing personal details about your severance for us all (and advice about networking; it's something definitely most of us sleep on when we are gainfully employed).
I am the worst at math so here goes: I assume you meant "one week for every year of service"? And doing the mental math, you were with the company for over 20 years?! Wow. Is that correct?
@a5, while I agree with you regarding LinkedIn, it’s still a platform that employers look at when deciding whether to hire you. If you find yourself jobless, all these things matter.
@a1, I got 6 weeks plus one year for each year of service which equated to 30 weeks for me. We (it was a group of us), also got money to pay for 6 months of cobra (in my case as a single person it was somewhere around $3500). I chose to get insurance through MnSure and skipped Cobra. We also got 3 months of a job/career program called Right Management which has been super helpful. They help you craft a resume and have really helpful classes. They are the ones that said I needed more LinkedIn connections. It’s pretty ugly out here, take advantage of every opportunity you’re given.
LinkedIn used to be good about a decade ago before it became infested with sales people, people treating it like Facebook posting nonsense, and now people posting AI slop to generate “engagement”.
LinkedIn is a cesspit but networking is always a good idea
Who wasn’t happy with your connections?
That should have no bearing on your employment.
Sorry to hear you were laid off. Do you mind me asking if severance was part of your lay off package? I’ve heard conflicting reports from the most recent quiet lay offs……
Noted on LinkedIn connections. Great advice.
